Spanish patrol boat in UK waters off Gibraltar.

I see that according to the Mail, one of our Navy ships is supposed to have ejected a Spanish boat from our waters?

Seeing that we are still in the EU I wonder what will be done diplomatically about that?

Answers on a postcard to Nigel?

Or is it just the case that the Spanish skipper had imbibed too many San Miguels and had the chart upside down? :good:

I watched the interview, he actually said that he thought Mrs May would 'show the same resolve in relation to Gibraltar as her predecessor did' (as Mrs Thatcher did to the Falklands).

Naturally the media twisted it to make some lazy headlines.

Despite the 'war' quote he never at any point said anything of the sort.

If I was him, I would be taking legal advice.

Exactly this.. Media spinning lines and changing what was said to what makes headlines..

Incursions into British Gibraltar Territorial Waters (BGTW) are nothing new. Generally, they start with a Spanish fishing vessel operating (i.e. fishing, not transiting) BGTW. The Royal Gibraltar Police launch them intercepts the Spanish fishing vessel, and sometimes escorts the fishing vessel out of BGTW without further incident. The Spanish authorities can see what is going on, so sometimes send a Guarda Civil vessel to "monitor". This now ceases to be a police matter, as a foreign state has sent an armed vessel into BGTW, so the Royal Navy patrol vessel then moves rapidly towards the incident, the Spanish sense the game's up and run back to Spanish territorial waters.

^^^^ and send our children into a war again that only benefits the arms industry?

Wise words :good:

If we made it clear to the spaniards this is what will happen and they failed to comply it would cause a war?

I think we need to toughen up. Gives us the perfect reason to stop their fishing fleet raping UK waters.

In 1982 great Britain sailed a task force 8000 miles to liberate 2000 people and rightly so, there are 30000 on Gibraltar and its about a 1000 miles away, I wouldn't risk any nonsense if I was the Spanish, they have enough internal strife with 50 per cent unemployment in the young.

If you put the Spanish argument to the test, you could say they should hand over the canaries to Africa as they are nearer Africa than spain.
