Absolutely. Speaking as an M.D. I would have a negative first impression of anyone with visible tatoos. You then start on the back foot. Not good. If I was your gaffa and you turned up to meetings with visible tatoos I would be hopping mad.

I'm fairly sure this would apply to most senior management over 30.

 

Narrow minded discrimination, having tattoos in no way impedes you from performing you're duties to the best of you're abilities, having them is a personal choice, they are an ancient form of individual expression, in many cultures they are worn as symbols as part of the wrights of passage into manhood, or as a protective talisman to ward of evil spirits.

Not everybody that is tattooed is a thug or anti establishment.

People should be judged for what they do, not how they choose to adorn their ownbodies.

As I have said before, the tatoo artists job has changed dramatically over the last few years, they have gone from anchors on sailers arms and love/hate on 'ard mans knuckles to intimate stuff on young women.

I was talking to one of the young girls in the office a while ago, picture the scene, she is very tall and standing, I was sat down - she had a couple of small tatoo's that we all knew about. I then saw (by viture of the fact 'they' wear very low cut jeans) the top of one I hadn't seen and commented on the fact.

She went red and said 'how on earth did you see that' it was reserved for invited guests only.

But someone, somewhere, has sat down and and applied it in the first place, and they probably only ever used to work on drunk sailers and hells angles.

 

So, the question is...

 

How the hell do you get started in this job?

I also have had many tattoo's and yes they hurt at the time but as already mentioned you soon forget about that. At the moment thinking of having one across my upper back next. As for people judging you I have not found it a problem getting a job as keep them covered for interviews ect. but the MD where I work definetly has old fashioned views about them but it doesn't affect how i do my job so he's ok with them.

Despite being "heavily" tattooed I would always double think what you are having done. "Mum,dad,cat,dog,budgie" written your arm or all your girlfriends who have then been crossed out or covered is not good.

Tattoos are not a fashion statement so be doubley sure. Best to walk away and rethink if are only 99.9% sure it's what you want.

Im covered in them. Big black celtic and tribal ******* apart from a particularily fine copy of picasso's Don Quixote ( my personal hero ) on my forearm. Who else has got has got a character froma 17th Century novel as a tattoo.

I got free drinks in Spain and when I was in hospital all of the very attractive Spanish nurses all wanted to see it. Tattoos, helping the fish meet women and get rubberised for free.

Stick that on your pasty boring and unadorned skin losers. Hahahhaha

Interesting stuff this, I interview and hire loads of folk with visible tattoo's and always make a point of asking about them as it gives quite a good insight into what motivates them. Up until now I've preferred to remain a blank canvas, though I was only discussing with 'er indoors last night a discreetly positioned terrier motif.

 

I see that Angelina Jolie has tattoo's of the longtitude and latitude for where each of her adopted kids comes from - maybe I should get something simlar for my permissions back in the Old Country?

I have tattoos myself, right top of arm i have a red devil called Derek (Long story).No Pain

Left top of arm i have naked tribal woman in black...looks great...Little Pain in places

on my back shoulder blade RHS i have a dragon in Black,(yet still to be shaded in)..Bloody Hurt but I never cried

 

I have never rushed out and just decided on the spur of the moment what i wanted, to be honest I knew i wanted a dragon on my back well originaly my chest. and it took about 2 years to find the right one...actually it is the same one as Lenny Kravice my Mrs spotted it in a Mag and that was that. But still have not got round to having it shaded but i will very shortly.

 

What put me off having it on my chest was this great big bloke coming out before me crying his eyes out due to the pain

 

Anyway I am a Manager and I meet customers and Directors all the time, but the tattoos are not visible as they are for me and not for the whole world to see.

 

Got child 4 due in Aug and I am thinking that I would like the kids names tattooed on me sonewhere but still deciding about it at present....

 

Im not a lover of tattoos on the neck, face or head and dont really like the sleeves, but lower leg tattoos look good, but something other then a Bulldog.

 

Think the best advise is to think hard about what you want and where you want it as it will be with you for a long time

waited till i was 40 and treated myself for my birthday...

2 bands around upper left and right arm.....above elbow

a taz....lol upper right arm

and the old Jordan GP team buzzing hornet on very top left arm.....

ALL HURT.....

but they are there for me...

i like them and thats the end of it...my choice

i havnt finished yet dunno what else to get but like the idea of something in the old english script .....

some of the lads went over to Scarborough for the weekend,after a few beers one decided to get a tattoo of his kids name in chinese on his upper arm.that night they went to a chinese restaurant and he asked one of the waiters if the tattoo looked ok,when he looked at it the waiter asked what it was supposed to say,he told him it was his kids name....the waiter said it did'nt say anything,it was just symbols all mixed up .

I'd go for it myself, but I would think twice about Chinese lettering though. I have a mate who has chinese lettering on the insides of both forearms. He was really chuffed with the result until he went to his local takeaway and was told that most of the tattoo on one arm meant nothing what so ever and was just random characters and part of the tattoo on the other arm was in fact quite offensive.

 

If you really want chinese I would show it to a chinaman first before you have it done.

there is obviously pain when you get tattooed ~ it's needles being stuck into your skin for goodness sake. but i think it's more about your pain threshold. personally yeah mine hurt a bit, but it wasn't an unpleasant pain.

Have had alot of work done and the tattoo on my back didnt hurt as much as i thought it would. I find the first 5 minutes are the worst then after that i can sit all day. The inner forearm isn't that bad but try the upper arm right near the armpit, that did smart abit but again after a few minutes the pain was bearable.

Yes.

It is a common experience amongst people who have been tattooed and one whic can cause people to keep having them done. When the pain kicks in chemicals (endorphins?) are released and a state of uphoria is achieved.

 

Like heroin but with pictures.
