There is no need to shut down debate, just shut down the individuals who resort to personal insults against other PW posters!

It may suit some posters to shut down a particular debate..............and use the moderators to do it?

We dont want to shut it down and wont unless we have to.   We certainly arent going to be influenced by anybody else in doing so.

There have been times though when we have had to repeatedly ask for people to stop slinging insults and bickering. Most posters on the thread agree with each other, which is fine, but the treatment directed at a few who have tried to challenge the consensus has on occasions crossed the line.

As long as people remain civil and play the ball rather than the man, the thread will continue.

You are right! There are quite a few who have been trying to get back for years. Usually the first thing they do is flounce to another forum and start mouthing off, and the second is that on a fairly regular basis they try and sneak back on. And then when banned again, they head off and do a bit more badmouthing about how rubbish the site is. And so the cycle continues, with a new registration only a matter of time... Pretty pathetic, and I feel a bit sorry for them really, as mostly desperate attention seekers.. But if you can't stay within the rules of the site, despite 3 or 4 warnings, and usually a temporary suspension first, depending on offence, only got themselves to blame!

On the plus side though, their flare ups do create a nice spike in site visits, enough to pay through increased ad revenue for a couple of rounds of drinks for us when we get together for a meet up.  Cant beat a bit of free advertising.

Dont tell them though ;)

For gods sake what planet are you on ?  You'll be rolling out the "we'll fight them on the beaches" speech next get a bloody grip and take your medication.

That speech worked last time we were up against European expansionists.....who knows, it may work again! Better than the defeatist talk, which reminds one of those in British politics in 1939, who continually wanted appeasement! If they had had their way,  those left in these islands would be talking in German!

I take Remain Crusader as a compliment. Thank-you.

As far as I can tell nothing has been halted and we still haven't yet left, apparently lots of confidence that we will but generally lacking in the details thus far.

A compliment? But surely, in the past you said you were a believer in Democracy, and not an out and out Remoaner? Which is it?

That idea is nieve in the extreme. The idea of a second vote is delusional, can't you see that? the vote has taken place, you can't turn back time even though you don't like the way it turned out. It would create a constitutional crisis unless remain was not on the second ballot. Since all the people calling for a second vote are really only hoping to subvert the first vote it demonstrates their lack of understanding. The first vote would still stand even if some contrived ballot with loaded options tricked its way through to appear to cast doubt. You cannot set aside the result of the referendum, it happened, it can't be un-happened..

The problem in the Original Ref. was the way it was set-up. no vote of such enormity should have been first past the post. It should have followed the Swiss model, win by X%

The major question is      "would your view have honestly been the same if the result was what "YOU" wanted the first time"   ---   I think not,

Yeah, I’ll take Remain crusader over Taliban Brexitard.

Regarding your other point, you really haven’t been listening, have you.

But those were the rules! If you lose, the rules were wrong, if you win, the rules are fine!........bleating after the event is daft! Lol!

That's his point.  The rules were wrong.  And they would still have been wrong if Remain had won. Such momentous decisions shouldn't be made on the back of a simple majority vote.

How do you work that out? Even parliament only needs one vote more on any side to have a binding result.

It's expected that the losing side will claim the rules were wrong, strangely, most democratic decisions are made on a simple majority!

Are you claiming that any vote won or defeated in the UK Parliament on a simple majority is wrong? If so ? All the democratic decisions made in Parliament for hundreds of years are wrong too!

Why should one side of an argument need to receive a specified number of votes more than the other side to win? That in my opinion is not democracy!

Classic Remainer rubbish. Our democratic system allows us to go to war (slightly important), but is inadequate for such weighty matters as to whose trough we constantly top up.

I was only referring to this point, so you clearly have not been paying attention?

Correct, but remember, those who back the EU, believe it,s laws and rules should always over rule our Parliament!

cmd thought he would "walk it" so failed to think it through.

So, if he had thought it through, we would not have ever been given the opportunity to  decide wether we wanted to continue to be ruled by the unelected in Brussels? Would you have been happy with that?
