Centrepin
Do you have any spare coaxial cable? If so you can make a base airiel, years since I've done one but it's dead easy. Split the coax, make into a V, normal or inverted. Minimum of 42" max of 102". Plug and play, trim to get the maximum SWR. Sure google or U tube have better explanations

Dave66
We used to use a wheel rim in the corner of the room with a "Firestick" ariel fastened to the wheel rim, after a bit of saving up, it was DiPole screwed to the side of the house. For years after you saw cars with the base section of a CB Ariel still fitted.

Dougy
I used a dustbin lid when i 1st started, then went on to a die pole outside my bedroom window, that really upset the neighbors when i swung it horizontal, you would end up coming through all the TV's and radios in the area. My dad at the time worked for the GPO on computers and told me umpteen times i would get arrested. LOL
defender
Years ago when there were loads of people on almost any aerial would do, but nowadays people are few and far between so the bigger and higher the better. I've just restarted using cb, a couple of weeks before the lockdown I saw a rare cb on facebook so I grabbed it and I've been messing with that, I already had an outside aerial so it was just a case of getting the coax out and connecting it all back up. I've got a Shakespeare ABS-1600 which has been up for years, very robust, but not made anymore I think. Good place to start still doing mail order http://www.kcb.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d3_Base-Antennas.html Edited April 1, 2020 by defender
