oowee
ISC's long awaited report. It's pretty clear that the Gov't failed to look for evidence of Russian interferance in UK politics, despite evidence that this had happened in the US and probably the Scottish independence vote. As a result of the failure of Gov't to look after UK interests and investigate interferance they were blind to the attacks on our democracy. The Gov't has also on at least four occasions lied about the reasons for delaying the release of the reports findings ('There was no reason for delay' Kevan Jones Committee member). There are direct links between some members of the house of lords and large Russian business interests, the details of which are to remain confidential for fear of harming the UK. It is evident that the Gov't failed to protect the 2016 referendum from interferance and ultimately Russia were rewarded by securing the decision it sought. Ultimately we will never know how many were persuaded by the Russian interferance to vote in their favour.

grrclark
Oowee sets the bear trap in plain sight......bears will still wander into the trap 🙄 The dangling bait aside it is a fascinating area of discussion. I agree that the government have failed to consider or mitigate interference from foreign state actors in respect to much of our recent democratic processes. You might even argue in some cases they have actually invited it, i.e. comments and posturing from Obama and Trump both readily bring used to bolster arguments. The question for me is more is more whether our failure toact upon a credible risk of having our democratic process undermined is one of incompetence (could certainly be true for a number of western democracies) or is it one of being complicit in taking the spoils of a compromised process? Regardless of Russia interference, do you honestly believe Brexit referendum would have gone the other way? I believe it would be ridiculous to suggest so. After in reality having 3 Brexit referendums all confirming we wanted to leave and all the negative press, plus absolutely ridiculous threats, many of which have already proven to been false. I think anyone suggesting that the UK doesn't really want to leave will loose all credibility and just look daft. What shall we do next, best out of seven with more referendums. Like all good scams those that were lured in would never know they were being taken for a ride. Look at how many fall for the Nigerian fraudsters and no doubt the Russian ploy was a lot smarter. treetree
There is no 'threat' from Russia (well, no more or less than the threat to Russia from other countries) its just the usual diversionary tactic when the government wants to divert attention away from one of its regular mess ups; "Quick, let's blame the Russians for something"

If they were that gullible, they'd have fallen to the ploy from the government at the time in a desperate bid to get us to stay, remember that leaflet that went to every address, even ww3 was mentioned. Your argument just doesn't hold water.
mudpatten
Why all the critiscism of the Tories. Labour would simply have given Russia everthing they wanted when Comrade Corbyn was at the helm.

Vince Green
The Russians have been in British politics since the 1920 when the Labour party was infiltrated by communists wanting to bring about another replay of the Russian revolution in Britain They have never gone away, secretly funding organisations like CND and Students Union and their activists. Pulling strings, seeding people and money into every sort of dissent

A good way to spot fraudsters is to check how they spell common English words such as interference etc, oh hang on......

The bad spelling / grammer is just a first stage filter , The scammers’ logic is that if you’re ‘stupid enough’ not to notice the spelling errors, you’re ‘stupid enough’ to fall for the scam.
