JDog
My normal Sunday morning treat didn't appear to be on offer this morning. Icing the Christmas cake seemed to take precedent. Looking from my bedroom window the wood 400m away became visible as the fog lifted so the car and Barney were loaded and off we jolly well went. My destination was pre ordained, a farm with a new owner who I met yesterday. I never made it as I spotted a few in a small spinney on the way and as I could drive to my position I chose to go there. At 10.40 I was ready. By 11.40 I had run out of cartridges but having learnt my lesson finally I resorted to the supply on my dog box in the car. The birds came very well. Not many actually decoyed but instead headed for the small spinney I was set up on. They proved to be testing targets. At 12.30 the fog rolled in again so I packed up some very wet gear. I picked 48 from the rape field, Barney found five in the spinney and together we found another two long droppers in the spinney shown in one of the pictures for a total of fifty five pigeons. Note: I was hesitant to put this post on as one of my usual shooting companions was working and another was self isolating (or at least he was supposed to be) as his wife and son have tested positive for Covid. GingerCat
Do you only take spare carts if you shoot by yourself?
b325
Barney looks like he's spotted another one. Sounds like a great little session. Thanks for the write up.
pigeon controller
Well done JDog sorry you missed your treat but you may get double next week “ it’s Christmas” . Nice result from an easy drive to peg, thanks for posting.

Scully
Fifty five is a good little session. 👍 I ran out of cartridges once, it ruins your day, and I made a vow to never let it happen again, so I always take more than I think I’m going to need. 🙂
WalkedUp
What a brilliant way to spend a morning, thank you for deciding to share despite reasons to not doing so.
aga man
Nice session J & your type of sport I know. A spinney is a great place to be this time of year. If are lucky enough to find one away from the game shoots!
maxwell
Excellent session, I set up in the fog this morning as it was forecast to clear but unfortunately it didn’t, glad to see you got some shooting JD
Mightymariner
Two things that always pop in your reports. You run out of shells and you always manage to shoot some birds. Well done old boy. BTW, I am not isolating or working 😉
marsh man
For us lesser mortals to get 50 odd Pigeons in the time frame would be unheard of in foggy conditions and on rape , well worth leaving your breakfast in bed for I see you were using Clear Pigeon , I have tried loads of different cartridges over the years , some good and others not so good , but the ones that I would put on top of the leader board were Clear Pigeon , 30gms , 6s. Sadly they got to dear, but they were the dogs bollxx not only for Pigeons but for most of the game as well .
Wilts#Dave
You don’t half get some nice little sessions Jdog, not much more enjoyable than what you’ve reported! I’d be jealous reading if I were your shooting companion, but there’s no draw greater than the chance of a bag of pigeons so good on you! The only thing you never seem to learn is that 50 cartridges is seldom enough 😂

I work on the basis that if I fire 50 shots in a short session, particularly on rape, then I have had a good time. My attention span nowadays is less than it was and two hours is plenty. One big advantage is having the shooting fields near at hand and having the time to pick and chose when to go , also by having short sessions you are getting some sport , keeping them off while you are shooting and leaving the ones that come on after you packed up to hopefully come back another day , this then give you regular sport , stopping the birds doing to much damage and keeping the land owner happy , win, win situation .
