Can Port Talbot steel works survive the Green climate brigade ?? , Tata want more tax payers money , is it another excuse to close down and make 1000s more unemployed in Wales, where as China and USA pump out millions of tons of carbon

It perplexes me that the M4 through Port Talbot is 50mph for the air quality, yet the stench of sulpher coming from the steel woorks can be overpowering.

I am amazed Port Talbot is still going,they claimed to lose a million pounds a day years ago,and now energy is trebling.Somehow I expect it will continue to be subsided by the tax payer,if not Tata will move out.

Specialist steel, no.

Hasn't the market for the kind of steel that Port Talbot produces largely disappeared in the UK?

I have no idea. I don’t know what type of steel is produced at Port Talbot. 🤷‍♂️

if we keep losing industry in the uk we will be an importer of everything just to keep the green idiots happy .This will increase our unemployment in all sectors and will increase our living costs as everything will have to be imported    adding to more emmissions to bring goods here by sea or air but hey ho the greens will not care as our carbon footprint will be zero  and the country skint as prices soar .Horse and carts anyone?

Think it’s got more to do with hoping to make money from fines,like the 2 mile stretch further west near Morriston.

This is a very good point, we should be championing British steel, much better quality product too!

A lot of it in the EU, if not premium from Germany, comes from Turkey.

If you have an industry that employs hundreds of thousands your obviously better off having it in a Country where you pay the staff pennies a day, rather than hundreds of pounds per day. 
 

Imagine it costing less to manufacture something halfway across the world and ship or fly it here than it costs to make it at home. 
 

At the end of the day it’s all down to £.

I hope not, anything this country needs to sustain itself should be produced here. I realise we can't necessarily produce all raw materials to do that, but anywhere that's possible, we should. 

If a war that threatened our nations survival broke out again, as an island we are hard to invade but alot easier to blockade. History tells us, just as the invasion of Ukraine, that despite often obvious warning signs, the world totally misses them and war at the time seems to start without warning.

I hope they dont move i had 30 yrs of good wages at Llanwern steel works one of the best paying employers around .Portalbot makes heavy grade steel where Llanwern used to make and roll a lot of steel for the car industries they closed Llanwern heavy end because Portalbot has its own port for shipping then sent coil for us to roll we had better rollong mills than Portalbot i could go on for ages about other things as well but will leave it there
