30-6
My son's were laughing at me recently when I showed them my paper green driving license, issued in 1977. Anybody else have one of these ? I have never had any reason to exchange for the newer photo type but will as I get older I believe.
udderlyoffroad
Memories of my father trying to hire a car in...France I believe with one of them. Was not a smooth process. Get it changed, for the sake of your family holiday!

mel b3
I've still got my old paper licence, but it's just a useless piece of paper now . You can't use them for anything.
Dougy
I've got an old paper one too. It's only just in one piece, I don't like getting it out of my wallet if I can help it.
Cosmicblue
UK Driving licences have to be renewed, every 10 years - if you take a look at the Photocard - the field 4b on the front is the expiry date. If you turn the card over (in VERY tiny text) is the expiry dates for all the vehicle classes you hold a licence for: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/changes-to-the-driving-licence-and-categories Edited August 11, 2022 by Cosmicblue

Stimo22
Yes you have to change to a new photo ID licence when you reach 70. But it is free and can be done online, was worried that they would not include all my groups, like motorcycles but it all went through ok
bottletopbill
Think the old ones are still valid as long as you do not reach seventy years of age or move houses. New ones last ten years then have to pay again keep the old ones👍
mossy835
im still passing my hgv each year,so i dont have to renew my car licence, and got rid of the papper licence years ago,
Dougy
As long as its up to date its legal, It cannot be used for ID (obviously no image) and stays legal until your 70 years old. I have a paper type, all the information on it is correct so have no need to go plastic.
