To be honest i don't think we should be speculating on anything it has to be horrendous for the family and the last thing they need is for accusations and second guessing   from the public

Why?

We’ve discussed and speculated on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, earthquakes in Turkey and the murder suicide of a headteacher. That’s normal life for you.

To be fair, it's very much in the public domain now. As long as nobody says anything offensive or unwarranted I don't see a problem

It is a real mystery

Alright then, so how weird is it?

My 2p. I’ve had a spaniel and been round hundreds. I’ve not seen a spaniel yet that wouldn’t follow their owner into water.

And the dog was found bone dry.

So, without knowing anything other than cocker spaniels, I’m 99% certain she didn’t fall in that river.

Armchair sleuths, discuss.

I work with a member of the search and rescue team (the water search specialists members are up there) and they are saying she isn't in the water.

The dog might not have seen her fall in the water .If it was running about in the bushes .she may have slipped down the bank smacked her head and knocked herself out, so no shouting and the dog didn't see her go in .

I'm suspecting a deliberate faking of her own death .

She may have thrown a ball for the dog and then run off down the bank .though a deliberate scarf in the river would have been more convincing perhaps .

I hope not .I really hope she if found alive for all involved  .very sad

A Reggie Perrin so to speak?

Hello, why would she be so near the river, 🤔 divers have found no sign of her and it's a fair way to the estuary, it is not very deep looking at the TV reports, if it was faking why was she not seen going off from the area, 🤔

Now I see there has been quite a few people going there like tourists 🙄

And taking selfies at the bench. Sickos!!

How can they be 100% sure of that, could she not be further along the river or in the sea by now?

Experience and expertise I would guess. We'll see, though, or maybe not? They have using physical and sonar searches. I use sonar for fishing and they are incredibly accurate, and I expect their kit is top notch, far better than what I have.

Don't know how they can say that, I was swiftwater rescue trained in the FS. Also the sidescan they are using is limited too as you need to be able to interpret what is shown on screen, fine if you are over a wreck or reef in 60+ft but they are in much shallower water so bottom coverage is limited and you need to be able to cover all the river which is hard as one person is navigating and another watching the sonar. GPS is good but not totally accurate and could miss areas.

which states "At its deepest - close to where Nicola vanished - the river reaches a depth of 15ft."  I have also read that it is only about 3 ft deep - which is what I would have guessed based on my local river.

I'm not too far from this, our river is the Lostock, and it's very low for this time of the year, lots to get snagged on .

I watched a lady on the river bank the other day picking up after her dog, it would be easy to slip and tumble down the banking,  bang your head on a rock which line the edges, but I could walk across at the moment in wellies, there are pools obviously but I can't imagine you would go far without another walker spotting you at this time of the year.

Being a simpleton and not wishing to discuss anything but the police theory of her going into the water, how could you decide between the water theory or any other means of disapearence? Unless in possession of a crystal ball?

And the police are never wrong eh?

There’s nothing wrong in having an enquiring or challenging mind, that said, if you do you won’t want to be reading the Daily Mail.

As above, what perplexes me is there being a dry spaniel in the equation when the woman is supposed to have gone in the river.

Lastly, for the police to call ‘river’ without conclusive evidence or a body, well it’s killed off all other lines of investigation and public assistance hasn’t it because everyone is happy to accept the police theory (and it is just a theory) and what they are told in the Daily Mail.

Needless to say, if it turns out she’s not gone in the river…..

One of my spaniels would not go into water unless there was a bird downed and as hers is dry it suggests that it doesn't go in regularly either, also if the dog is off running about and Nicola goes in the river then the dog returns it is unlikely to look for her there?

So, that’s one spaniel, out of how many you have / have had / have known.

Would you say it common for spaniels to avoid water? Would you say it more probable than not?

Let me put it another way for the hard of independent reasoning…. 😆

I would also add that our cocker spaniel (as well as absolutely loving water and taking any opportunity to jump in to it) had ‘chosen’ Mrs Mungler to the extent that the dog was glued to her and wouldn’t have ventured far.

Like I said, who knows what’s gone on but I am still flummoxed by the dry cocker spaniel.

Highly possibly.

I believe the search and rescue team would have found her if she was; it is a limited area to search and they would have taken any spate conditions, snags and depth into consideration.
