Things have been fairly quiet of late on the forum ,  then I realised we haven't heard from Skully for a while ,so we need him back as soon as possible because a lot of good guns are going un noticed and we need to know a few more details and he is the man to put us right :hmm:

What could you shoot in Venice?

Well they ain't short of water so it might be worth feeding the odd quiet road , street or whatever you call a waterway that get you from a A to B  for a few of the local duck . on second thoughts I would get restless after a couple of weeks and I would be heading back to the land of hope and glory

You're very welcome 🙂 I remember him saying about the trip to Venice, but didn't realise it was for so long 😆

Whilst staying in Venice last August we took the water taxi over to the small island of Torcello which has one small taverna eatery in beautiful settings. We ate outside and afterwards whilst inside paying the bill I noticed a few photos on the wall near the cash register.  There were several of chap stood in a small rowing type boat holding an old side by side with a black lab in the boat showing a few duck he had shot. Another pic showed him holding up what looked like to be some type of large fine looking goose. The pics were very close up of him and you could clearly make out the bare wastes of the lagoon in the background with what looked like a smattering of snow.

I remarked about the pictures to the staff and was informed that he was the owner of the restaurant, however now deceased and the pictures were taken sometime in the mid seventies. And the staff were his immeadiate and extended family.

I have taken the early morning water taxi ut to Burrano and Murano etc severaltimes on return trips to Venice and I have seen lots of fowl, ducks, waders and all manner of other small fowl that I could not identify. They fly past in great skeins skimming the water and hugging the exposed flats in the great lagoon as the tide ebbs and flows.

Maybe Scully has taken his 12 bore with him and is trying a spot of italian fowling.

Interesting update 7diaw , we get several continental shooters come over here so they have no doubt got some wildfowl shooting of sorts  , although some of them have got a dodgy reputation we have met some super guys who were also very good shot and above all they were safe , safer than some of the British guns we have had from time to time .:good:
