In certain parts of Wales which enjoy a high migrant settler.........they are unhappy about the ammount of dogs that are owned and worked by the local populace...and so as not to upset them further and insult them a proposed ban of dogs in certain areas has been tabled......

This is highly unlikly to go thro to law....but having got this far is astonishing.......what will be next....a ban on the word christmas.... and pubs banned from selling alcoholic beverages.................im joking of coarse but have my serious face on

this is quite worrying

As someone who had the occasion, once, to see his father shoot two dogs worrying sheep across from our boundary in a neighbour's field, I'd welcome the banning of dogs from the countryside. Whatever the motive. If you want to exercise your dog then exercise it on your own property not mine. Also as an unintended consequence but a welcome consequence it would remove any excuse of "walking my dog" from illegal lurcher men coursing hares.

Yep a law to appease Asians who are utterly petrified by dogs. Pathetic from Weish Labour, the UK is not an Asian country.  We don't like their drug dealing.

Oh dear what a snobbish stupid comment.

You think nobody with a dog should have access to a footpath because you own the land?

But that's the problem isn't it. They don't just stick to footpaths with the dog on a leash do they. The dog is let free. Therefore roaming beyond the permissive right given by the footpath. Possibly causing harm to ground nesting birds and other wildlife. And its mess is seldom cleared up and bagged but left where it is done. Which is done on the footpath may then mean it becomes a health hazard to children. Of if bagged chucked into the hedge like some form of faecal grapes. But all that's alright because someone's wish to irresponsibly exercise their dog is more important that anybody else's right to enjoy the footpath free from fear of stepping in dog mess or free from what may be a genuine fear of dogs. How selfish.

The law requires that dogs must be kept on a lead in certain places, such as children's play areas, sports pitches, roads, parks, and beaches. So why should that not be the same with a public footpath crossing land?

Possibly, possibly, possibly. Or one day you might get set on  by a couple of scrotes out coursing and getting a beating when possibly someones Alsatian might intervene and save your bacon.....possibly. My dogs will walk within inches of cattle/sheep or whatever and not pay any attention, they leave nothing behind but footprints and are nearly always off lead. Dont paint all dogs with the same brush.

My experience of people with dogs is very much @enfieldsparesversion and very much not your version. Most people seem to think farmland is there for them to use as open parkland for them to wander around with their dogs running all over the place while they can help themselves to any crops they might fancy.

I managed to train some of the regulars to behave but only until my back was turned. The only group of people I could praise would be the kids coming through doing their DoE hikes, they were polite, stuck to the paths, don't leave any litter and don't have dogs. Can't say the same for their supervisors but the kids set a good example.

It is not dogs which need banning from the countryside, but the Townee idiots with their wild, untrained pets. I fall out with someone nearly every day whilst walking my (trained) dogs.
As a supposed ‘shooting man’ I take it our friend Enfieldspares does not agree with and has no use for any proper , working gun dogs?

It will affect trail hunting. I bet this never crossed the minds of the welsh government..

Climate Cymru BAME. Is the source.

Dog-free areas should be created in local green spaces to make them more inclusive, the report says. However, the point is not elaborated on.

It's a story about nothing whipped up by the media frenzy to sell content and picked up by low information members of the public.

seen it reported BBC and sky and GBN.........sure if you googled it you would get the story as well

Yes I found the source, Climate Cymru BAME.

A group that no doubt has to make silly “recommendations” to justify its own existence.

The idea it ever comes to fruition is laughable.

Although as Enfield Spares points out, with the ever increasing Joe Public and their totally untrained pets (which seems much worse post Covid) it would be refreshing to go somewhere without badly behaved animals running around out of control.

2016 called, they want their thinly-disguised racial slur back.

Tell you what, Climate Cymru or whatever the hell you’re called, how about we fence off some areas in public parks for the exclusive use of dog walkers, like a lot of places in the US. Would help contain the clueless owners & allow their hounds to socialise.

No, and in general as far as I know - no parts of the countryside are.  But in some towns and cities, much of the local custom and culture is, in effect, gthat of the local population, who are predominantly Asian.  I can quite see some areas wanting to (and succeeding) in banning dogs because many of the local councillors and elected representatives of various sorts are Asian, are elected by an Asian majority, and follow Asian customs and culture.

I'm not being 'racist', but that is how some areas are now.

Minor problems with unruly dogs always did exist in the countryside before the covid outbreak , then when people had a lot of time on there hands in the early stages of lockdown then the minor problems quickly went from minor to major problems , if you remember when we had the first lockdowns the weather was gorgeous and to pass the time away and to get the exercise they took themselves and the dogs out into the countryside , to begin with they stuck to the foot paths and then they needed to explore what was off the foot paths , this is where the trouble began , we had rearing pens in the woods , conservation areas , Beatle banks and wild flower mix fields, I was out myself a fair bit even though I was in the vulnerable age group , with me on paper protecting the crops I had a letter to say I was a key worker although I never saw a soul who was ever likely to have a look at it . the times I went and had a word with these dog walkers were at least one or twice every time I went out , we also had a lot of young Sheep that were getting chased about and I even had one woman moaning that the electric fence made her dog jump , we had notices up asking them politely to keep to the foot paths but they were ignored and they would say they thought they were on a footpath , after a while it quietened down a bit when they started to drift back to work and although it didn't return to pre covid levels it is now far better than it was at the early stages .    MM

When my mate was cutting his silage I had one chap saying it was about time this grass was cut so we could walk about properly!
He was incredulous when I told him it was not being cut to allow the public better access, but for animal feed.

You've partly answered your own question as to why I'd support a proposed ban on people bring dogs, unless on a lead at all times, onto land where there were there solely exercising a right to use a footpath. So a ban so framed wouldn't affect those with permission to the "sporting rights" to use gundogs nor those that were there, again with permission, to hunt a trail.

Also I'll mention it just in case anyone else doesn't. Those times where the holding cover, game strip or woodland on the best drive of the day, saved until after lunch, has been ruined because the same Tom or Tess Townee you refer to have let their off the lead dogs run through it. Others have already again also mentioned other problems caused.

I'd have no problem with dogs at all times on a lead...the same rules applying as to dogs walked in public places in an urban environment...but as others have said without that requirement being law in the countryside (apart from a couple of months) irresponsible owners that let dogs run free cannot otherwise be obliged to leash their animals. So that is why unless such was made law I'd favour a ban as being the only other solution.
