You have chosen well, all of the guns that you are considering are capable of removing a Gnats wedding tackle if you do your bit. I am a self confessed AA fan and after 38 years of Airgun use I wouldn't use anything else, I shoot Squirrels for a Trust over 5k acres and an unreliable gun is not an option, as for the indexing system on the AA guns all I can add is that I have never had a single issue with any model but that a replacement indexing post is less than £10 and can be fitted in 2 minutes. Good choice of calibre as well. Bought both my current guns second hand ( S410 classic .177 and Walnut Carbine .22) so have no idea of their previous treatment but the classic has been mine for over 6 years, still looks like new and will still outshoot me every time. Confidence is an addition that you cannot buy for a gun - it comes with time spent and results achieved - yet it is as important as a good scope, I can rely on my 2 AA's to hit anything that I place the crosshairs on time and time again which is why I would never part with them .

For £100k/year maybe he could list his achievements to date? Seems to me that legislation is slowly crippling the shooting community and yet, despite some Laws being passed as a total knee jerk reaction and having no relevance to the real world, as far as I can see the BASC have managed to do Diddly-Squat to overturn them.....banning 5 shot auto's on a SGC....come on? ?

Now only use RWS Subs and never had the slightest problem with one of them, Used Eley Extra when I first bought my 452 but then quality plummeted so I changed to RWS and would not go back.....they also do a HVHP which is very accurate.
-
Much as I love my 452, I have to agree with psycho - mate had one and it was good for another 30 yards on a good day over the CZ - superb rifle and possibly the most accurate rimmie that I have come across.
-
On the other hand the .25 Puffgun is all over by 80 yards whilst the HMR has another 200 yards of bad attitude .

Cannot but wonder where the Super Markets get their meat from....with a limited amount of Abattoir's are we suggesting that these little village Butchers have their own hidden away? We have a Butcher in our Town - meat is about the same as our local Tesco but 3 times the price - had a really poor Beef joint from him and ended up having a massive row with the owner, any problems with Tesco then it's a refund no questions.

jasper682.....nobody is implying that they know best nor trying to sway him into buying something that he may regret, but it seems that, these days, fewer and fewer people are considering buying a gun built by the finest makers in the world, built largely by hand and to a standard that has seldom been matched by any foreign maker to date. My opinion is simply that he owes it to himself to handle an early 20th century sidelock and experience the joy of such a weapon - if he does so and still thinks that a foreign gun is superior then we can refer him to a Trick Cyclist to have his bumps felt

I just use Emulsion paint mixed 50/50 with water.

Is it just me or is a SxS with a pistol grip, single trigger and multi chokes a bit like a Ford Model T with power steering, Sat Nav and Aircon?? Buy an English made sidelock that was actually made by the name on the barrel, don't get hung up on chokes too much and enjoy it for what it is.

Remington Express is not a bad gun and cheap - shame you're not closer as I have one scoped and as new (still got the box) you could have for £50.
-
WS Riley of Staffs? - started in 1852 if it is and sold new and used guns mainly to the Agricultural market - crying shame she doesn't still have her original tubes - most likely a Birmingham built gun?
-
My thoughts as well, steveshoots, they are the same cartridge?? I use 67mm in my 2 1/2" English SxS and the box states that they are for suitable for such a chamber length which is 65mm.

I think that the only honest opinion anyone can be true to would be the decision they make as they look at their child whilst holding the switch in their hands - there can be no right or wrong decisions other than those made by the people closest to him and money is an ugly cloak that should not be worn in such circumstances.

SHAUN4860 - with the greatest of respect, paying into an Insurance policy is not a savings account and you are never due "something back" - the money you pay is to "insure" you against suffering a loss and at the end of the term you have "used" the product.

You should come and live in my Town, I have a Beds Police CID Officer as a neighbour on one side and a Teaching assistant on the other - to the right of her, and with 3 nice Trees in their garden live a retired couple that used to run a Post Office. The CID Officer couldn't give a Monkeys when I'm shooting and is happy to let her 8 year old son come and have a go while the Teaching Assistant keeps her hedge cut low enough for me to shoot Magpies from the trees next to her - a constant request from the ex PO couple.

As long as no pellet leaves his property then why not leave him be? He is not breaking any law so calling the police is just a waste of their time. By all means have a friendly chat with him and maybe mention that your Girls are worried - would he consider hanging up an old Carpet behind the target area as BB's, if that's what he's using, tend to ricochet? You might also slip it into the conversation that you are happy to let him shoot away but that you would expect him to stop permanently should any damage occur to your property or people within your boundary and that you would hold him liable in any such event.

Spanish SxS for new starter or someone in need.

TD you are indeed a decent man and dead right when you say that **** happens. In 2005 I suffered a minor stroke followed by Renal failure, work was down to a 3 day week and Mortgage arrears were hanging over us. As the year progressed I got so ill that work was impossible and it took 14 months and a Tribunal to get a penny from the Social then to cap it all my Boss informed the Police, out of the blue, that he considered me violent!!- nearly 5 months after I had left work. Hang on in there because, sooner or later, your luck will change and the World will seem a much fairer place, stay positive and keep those who matter the most close to you. If you ever come near MK and find yourself at a loss for something to do then I would consider it my pleasure to buy you a Beer or 2,3,4 -
Damascus barrels are the answer on a slow day - you can sit and admire them for hours. My Lincoln Jeffries even has a Damascus steel Rib .
-
TBH , with your barrel/breach having been machined off centre I would imagine that the whole shebang is out of line with the cylinder? As your scope is going to curl it's toes around the cylinder I'm guessing that , once zeroed, the pellets will strike slightly one side or the other at anything other than the zeroed range - the further from point zero the greater the drift?
-
Plenty of nice Damascus barrelled SxS Hammerguns out there if you keep an eye out - bought a v.nice Lincoln Jeffries "Lightweight" 12G dated approx. 1885 for under £300 a couple of months back. Truly beautiful gun to shoot and really is light as a feather - Damascus is stunning and the quality is amazing - gun looks about 20 years old.

Medieval mobile threesome Glory Hole.

What have you tried? Mine shot AA Field pretty well, they dropped down the barrel a couple of mm but accuracy was acceptable.

The even darker art of O ring fettling is just around the corner . I would try a selection of different rings from various sources as variables in inside dia and the flexibility of the materiel used in manufacture can make a difference i.e. an O ring id should be smaller than the od of the groove into which it locates - the amount of difference will effect the od of the O ring or, put more simply, the tighter the O ring grips the bottom of the groove, the smaller the od will be. Next comes the composition as various mixtures used during manufacture enable the O ring to exhibit different flexibility during use, obviously the more resistant to flexing the O ring is, the more pressure it will exert on it's component part. Just buy a bloomin PCP and be done with it .
