  8. Rain water was a precious item in rural Britain prior to the arrival of mains water supply. We had former tar barrels at every down pipe plus a proper tank on a house extension. Rain water was especially prized as a sourceof ,'soft' water which was best for weekly wash as many farm wells produced heavily limed water. Blackpowder

  16. Climbing shops used to sell stuff called Snowseal or a similar name although I have not seen it in years, it could have been of American origin as it claimed to contain bear fat. Found it really good for water proofing and keeping leather supply. Two summers ago I used surplus to requirements Barbours wax on ex army boots smeared them well and left in greenhouse over a few hot days. Never leaked a drop over two shooting seasons. 22. No not a heater but a two burner paraffin cooker, if you wanted to roast or bake an oven with mica windows went on top of the two burners. Yes and we did have the heaters you mentioned also. Blackpowder
  23. Rural life in the 40s and 50s, no electricity plumbing was one cold tap cooking on open fire and paraffin stove. With a two burner camping stove I may just survive but unfortunately no longer live in a house with a kitchen range. Blackpowder.
  24. Eyemouth all around the south side alongside golf course, deep water close in, rough bottom but sliding float tackle is ideal codling , pollack wrasse and coalfish. Boat charters Derek Anderson he has tackle for hire, Martin Spouse and Iven Williamson all operate from the harbour. Rocks on south end of Coldingham Sands make a easy stance to fish over sand for flat fish. Deep water around the entrance to St Abbs Harbour is similar to Eyemouth golf course. Blackpowder Torness is bandit country so called anglers killing everything has ruined what could be an excellent bass venue. Blackpowder
