  1. Yep, rain seems to have stopped play here as well, even the small birds have hunkered down. Nice day tomorrow so they will be hungry
  2. You got an open ticket ???????????????????????😀
  3. This is the key. Any shotgun improves if it fits you but with a sxs it is even more important. All this business of seeing the rib etc is in my view baloney because I never ecer see either when I shoot. I am concentrating on where the bird is and maintaining my swing accordingly. Aim a shotgun like a rifle and you will miss almost every time in my view. The advice to get a GOOD coach/stocker to check the fit is wise BUT of course then you have to give it time and practise until mounting and shooting becomes one smooth operation. I shoot semi autos, pumps, side by sides and over and unders fairly regularly and never alter my approach. Only my two sxs shotguns are fitted.
  4. They have obviously issued the FAC so are happy with your situation. The wording is as near normal for a 'closed' cert. Really do not see a problem. I have never seen an FAC with ...must be with a 'supervisor'. That part is usually as part of your application. They have issued the FAC without the need obviously.
  5. Wonder if you could tie a lure out of those tail feathers?
  6. The main trap catches I get are from October through to end of February and nine times out of ten they enter a trap I know needs filling up with peanuts, probably just a few bits in the bottom of the container. As said, you only need to watch them for a few minutes to realise they are very inquisitive animals and just the smell is enough. I enjoy seeing the hundreds of small birds I now have in my wood because I keep the main predators down, magpies and jays as well as squirrels. The cost of a few peanuts is well worth it.
  7. Great videos. I have a bunch but looks like someone beat me to this one. Enjoy, they don't make 'em like that anymore. He was a true countryman.
  8. Super video, that dog deserves an extra bowl of food. Reminds me of my old choccy lab Muffin, he would swim all day if I let him.
  9. 17HMR in my opinion is a 'Classic' in line with the 308Winchester, 30-06 and the 300 Holland & Holland. Superbly accurate and sudden death to small game and verminous things. Seeing my middle name is Hughes I refuse to comment on the lovely ladies🐑.
  10. We use, Morrisons and Aldi for different items. We buy our bread from a local bakery so it isn't the rubberised pap wrapped in wax paper and we also use our local farm shop for meat, sausages, lamb in particular as it is their own, prepared on site. I do have a Tesco mobile at the moment because they offered me a good deal, no other reason. Stop over once a year at the Tesco, Ashby de la Zouch for a breakfast with other guns before a days shooting and they do a fair breakfast. I beloeve in spreadin my custom where I get good service and what I require is good quality ...eg I like Morrisons Glen Stag Whisky, also their strength 6 ground coffee and their fish counter is also worth a look. Aldi do some awesome biscuits and a fantastic range of chocolate bars. I noticed the jars of pickle in Aldi, Morrisons and Tescos are all the same with their labels and I met someone the other day who works for the company making it. Square jars and recommended ...particularly the Ploughmans Plum.
  11. Some beautiful country up there. Super write up and pleased to got your bull, you certainly earn every inch of those antlers. I spent four days in Jackson Hole to aclimatise before my elk hunt in Wyoming and we used horses but I was still pooped. If you can scratch the cash together, then there is no better way to spend it. Just do your homework first and check out reviews etc on outfitters before choosing. Getting acclimatised does help no end. Some super fishing in elk hunting areas and as we did spend a day or two fishing at slightly lower levels. I'm not kidding !!! They helicoptered the body of one hunter in our party from above us who had a heart attack.
  12. Just flashed up on my news panel...."Tesla are for the graveyard"
  13. Read that the Tesla man, Musk is in deep doo doo with at least two courts cases pending. Rather than flash expensive cars going electric, as said, far better that we see a range of delivery vans even ATV and UTVs ..... even eventually heavy lorries. What does annoy me, is I still have to pay full road tax on my Land Rover although I run it on LPG which produces almost nothing but water vapour from the exhaust.
  14. Spot on. I have read and watched almost all of the stuff on this case and am in agreement with the Porugese Detective. Something very starnge went on here. A dog trained to detect traces on a body found a 'hit' on the bottom of the wardrobe in the parents bedroom. That is still not explained. Money donated by genuine concerned people to help find the body should not be used. They broight all of this on themselves in the first place by aboandoning their kids, when a night watch service was available.
  15. Federal 60gr Norma Partition or reload your own, which allows you to build the load the rifle enjoys. 1 1/2 inches at 50yrds is way too big..... have to say it, are you sure it is not the nut behind the stock ...no offence, but we have all been there. I have used Federal and also loaded my own Norma bullets with great success. The Partition will do the job on any of the deer legal for calibre and the fox will not notice the difference. I am not convinced the make of rifle has any bearing on choice of cartridge/bullet.
  16. I think you should buy a big bag and maybe a pint to go with it.
  17. Been a fair number of years now..20 or more since I bothered going to any of these 'country fairs' as they have all gone the same way the Royal Agricultural show went, little or nothing representing the subject but loads of tat. Great pity because I went to the first Game Fair there back in ..errrrr???? ...round about 1960 ish.... I know I had to wait for my mother to finish the milk round before I could borrow the van .... Had an Intrepid reel which the bail arm had broken and they had a stand there. Great service, a new one arrived four days later in the post. I did the Shooting Show this year at the NEC but did not enjoy it as much as Stoneleigh the year before. I think I'll drive the other direction to Lincolnshire and kill some squirrels instead ... maybe a muntie or two.
  18. The seed of this plant can be viable for many years even buried 2ft under the soil. It enjoys a hot summer and the plough has brought seed up to the surface. I would not be too concerned other than taking normal precautions to prevent the seed or plant material being ingested. Long coated dogs may pick seeds up in their coats and then lick them off but I think that would be the extreme. Just don't put any leaves in your sandwiches at lunch time.
  19. I have a sweet chestnut alongside a Kentish Cob nut in my orchard and to my knowledge they have never taken the nuts from the tree but when they fall and split open I have seen some interest but they prefer the cobs(hazel) or my walnuts which are also close by. They don't normally live long enough to enjoy either though. 3 again yesterday. Super photos, you are so lucky.
  20. Take normal precautions. From what I understand it is pretty nasty if ingested but not as bad a Giant Hogweed if you just brush against it. Most daturas are not good for your health.
  21. Just that I have a huge supply of 2 inch cartridges donated by folk...Old Farrier being one and a shame to waste them. I do also use the AA S200 occasionally. Find I do not have many catches until the cooler weather sets in....end of October onwards. During the summer they are 17HMR fodder There is a thread on here showing my similar set up but I make the feeder right at the back of the trap filling the whole width top to bottom and I cut a couple of squares out and the tits, nuthatches can pop in and help themselves. I don't mind feeding them and yes, you are right their activity certainly attracts the tree rats. Whack 'em and stack 'em.
  22. Friday night in Walsall ???? Will do the job no problem.
