  1. Do they not ask questions as to why you would want say 3 or 4 12bores on your licence regardless of SxS or O/U? I would love to slot another SxS on my licence(NI firearms licence) hammer gun probably but having to provide a reason different to the other 3 I already have seems silly.
  2. I've heard of some rednecks painting the underside of their wagons in used engine oil and driving up and down a dusty road. Bet the council would love you for that
  3. This is my one, it looks quite bright in this pic. The pockets are great for emptying cartridges into and the top pockets are great for chucking a couple of different cartridges. For when your hands are cold and walking with a gun you can actually hook your hand into the top pocket and keep the gun over your arm
  4. I have a stormkloth jacket, had it a long time now, for this time of year I think it's great, its thinish but can retain the heat really well. Not really that waterproof but can keep the drizzle at bay. If I get a chance later ill take a pic of mine.
  5. Along with the supplements also consider give him a bit of a massage, a bit more than the "good boy" stroke. Find where the muscles are crossing the stiff joints and massage lengthwise to warm them up a bit then massage across the muscle fibres for a bit and finish off going lengthwise again. I treat athletes with sports massage, animals have muscles just like we do and a bit of massage can go a long way in keeping the muscles in condition.
  6. A river local to me has pine martens around it, was very lucky to get to see one when I was fishing once, one evening in the local news there was some group asking the public to report their sightings of them and where they were spotted..... Not while my hoop looks down! The second someone let's slip about them or the kingfishers then there will be an army of do gooders and twitchers down trying to catch a glimpse or "improve the habitat" for them!
  7. are you sure of the properties of the alloy you're using? Some alloys and heat treats of aluminium are not designed to be worked or welded. I would get solid billet, a hacksaw and some files and forget about forging altogether
  8. Why should they be allowed to go cap in hand to the government? They are a CHARITY! They should only be funded by their donations from Joe public. I can't help but laugh every time I hear about declining raptor numbers, I have never seen more birds of prey than I have in the last few years around my area and I haven't once seen the RSPB about doing any schemes. An area I have permission to shoot on has 4 birds of prey that live/nest and hunt on the land....across the road is a national trust gardens for the paying public that is supposed to be all welcoming to wildlife, well these birds avoid it like the plague! Apart from a few squirrels and the odd passing bunny it is devoid of wildlife, the fields adjacent to it used to be teeming with bunnies when I was a child and now there is nothing. All these types of organisations are centred around getting money off the deluded town dwellers that think their subscriptions help wildlife. In reality their money goes to pay fat salaries to the charity bosses, goes into paying for TV adverts, paying high price solicitors to take on spurious court cases and burned on wining and dining and lobbying political figures to give large amounts of government money to an organisation that really doesn't do an awful lot to help wildlife.
  9. Is the RSPB not overstepping their remit?? A bit like the RSPCA with their "enforcement officers". They are a damn charity and need to stop swinging themselves about like they are a government body. Strip the royal patronage from them immediately I say
  10. My cousins and uncle ride motoX over here in northern ireland, i love hearing the bark of a CR500 when I go to watch the races, they just sound so angry. Not sure if i would risk chucking my leg over one though. They have a few KTMs but the favourites would be the old 90s era steel framed CR125s or the 1989 CR125. They have a 1977(I think) 125 motovilla and I'm dying to see the thing built.

    BMI

BMI is used as a general measure for the population, I asked my own doctor about mine when my blood pressure went through the roof as I wasn't fat, was training 3 times a week plus my Saturday match when I was still playing rugby. Mine suggested I should be about 10.5 to 11 stone and he just looked at me with a raised eyebrow and said "if you went down to that kind of weight I would be VERY worried" The best measure for health is body fat percentage, even that wee bit extra on the tummy isn't too bad for you, it's the visceral fat inside and round the organs that causes the big issues, especially round the heart and liver.
  12. May as well break out the kango hammer, by the time you get it off your going to be re-skimming the wall anyway by the sounds of it. What about some real heavy grit sandpaper in an electric sander to scuff the life out of the paper then boiling hot water with fairy liquid to soak right into it then a good sharp scraper should get it off.
  13. Lovely work, did you get a purely wood working lathe? I'm trying to get a small engineering lathe myself on the likes of evilbay but at present even well clapped out 2nd hand ones are going for silly prices, or decent priced ones will not post to northern ireland 🙁
  14. Even without covid I prefer to shoot alone or with 1 other maximum, I know a lot of people with a licence but very few I would want to be around while shooting.
  15. Did you strip the firing pin right out of it? If your firing pin is being stuck in the forward position then it could come forward onto a primer in the same way an open bolt machine gun does, rather than a double discharge as you would get from an o/u what you are having is a runaway gun. I would check your firing pin and the trigger internals for damage or anything to suggest that the firing pin may be held forward. If that happened in my semi auto .22 with the 30rd mag things could get interesting!
  16. Its common courtesy to pick up your empties. If I shoot any steel shot cartridges in the fields with a plastic shot cup I always have a cursory glance around to see if I can find the shot cup as well.
  17. If there's no fleur de lise marking then no high pressure steep proof so it's not recommended to shoot superior proof steel through it....That's not to say people don't do it though
  18. If you have the flight radar app on your phone you can check what the helicopter is and if it gives the registration you can find out shout belongs to.
  19. If it's following a distinct grid pattern its possibly ordinance survey doing a land survey
  20. I started this thread as a reaction to more forced rules from the EU. On some reading about it there was very little clarity about what constitutes a body of water. So what I was thinking was, did this mean that a driven shoot that has a field that flooded due to unseasonal weather could find themselves at odds with this ruling as this could be termed as a "body of water". If this was accepted you can bet your backside that someone will be waiting with a camera to catch us out and spread it over the front pages of the sun newspaper. Another take on it with the "body of water" argument could possibly hit pigeon decoyers on stubbles. A lot of stubble fields I have shot over have drainage channels along there edges, these can be classed as a body of water as they are designed to carry water. so unless the fields are massive you will therefore have to use non toxic shot no matter where you set your hide up.
  21. One of the best things I know for loosening rust and old grease and crud is a good soak in some cheap red diesel. And if you're not afraid of riding the pot into a low earth orbit you can GENTLY warm it up a bit while it soaks
  22. A good bronze brush in a drill with some oil should loosen that kack then a spray through with brunox and a rag to finish should sort it

    hare coursing

Couple of hundred years ago they would have been shot or hanged. I think there should be more powers given to gamekeepers and landowners to deter these people
  24. The only one I can think of from northern ireland would be Vegetable Roll. It is about as far from being vegetarian as you can get despite the name vegetable in it. I don't think many outside northern ireland have come across it but there may be other local variants of it over the rest of Britain as it's a real working class type food. Consists really of coarse minced fatty beef with possibly leeks and onions and some seasonings, most local butcher's have their own recipes for it. It was one of the cheap meal foods that I was rared on. Being slightly more health conscious now I fry it from the pan cold to render out some fat to cook it nice and crispy, goes with everything from an Ulster fry to chips to spuds and veg. Lovely stuff
