huffhuff
Hoover went bang bang. Need a new one. Preferably a cylinder as no space in cupboard. Small 2 bedroom house, mix of carpets, tiles and wooden flooring. We have a cocker spaniel. I was thinking Dyson DC39... But happy to hear comments for and against all brands. wymberley
Miele Cat and Dog. It's literally only just now that after 15 years that the cat and dog (hairs) head has worn out and needs replacing - the machine itself is still good to go. Beardo
Henry wins hands down, we ditched the wife's Dyson when we moved in together - had my Henry for 10 years and still going strong
kent
Had an early Dyson - it was great, the more twiddly bits and gimics they put on the worse they got was chucking one a year even though we tried to stay loyal. Miele all the way now good solid engineered stuff that works and STAYS working
PhilR
Mary says Miele - wouldn't buy any other brand. Had a Dyson between two Mieles and it was carp.

kernel gadaffi
Sebo, not cheap, probably around £250, but a quality product with a 10 year guarantee, I know someone that has one almost 30 years old and it's still going strong. DSPUK
If you suffer cat and dog hairs- to test your hoover is doing it's job on carpet - get a hacksaw blade - hold each end and drag it over your carpet you will be amazed at how much your hoover miss's Dave
tbox
Miele for me. Dysons don't seem to last 5 minutes round here.

UGM
Henry All Day. Have even used mine connected to an orbital sander to do all the doors, walls and woodwork in my house when doing a major revamp. 2 years old now and still works like new. aris
Sebo, not cheap, probably around £250, but a quality product with a 10 year guarantee, I know someone that has one almost 30 years old and it's still going strong. We have a Sebo - still going strong. Not bagless, but that is a plus for me. Less mess to deal with. It has an automatically adjusting head so when you go from carpet to wood floors, it adusts the brush up or down to whichever level is suitable for your carpet or floor. I think we've had ours for 10 years. Still going strong! Henry's are great - but don't have a motorised brush head which means it doesn't pick up as much and it's alot more work. It is fine if you just have wood floors though (or a workshop floor). Edited February 2, 2013 by aris

Dougy
I recently bought a "Hoover" 2100w dustmaster cyclonic its very good at removing hairs with the beat sweep action, you wont get the same results re hairs with a numatic type vacuum cleaner. Cant believe we are discussing what type of vacuum cleaner is the best, are we all turning or what. Now get you cleaner sorted and get back on track. oscarsdad
I have a dyson animal DC41 and a dyson animal handheld, both a brilliant and pick up a lot more than the old Samsung thing or the vax cylinder cleaner we have.
100milesaway
I find that which ever cleaner you buy , they all end up not being as efficiant once you've had um a few months. 40 years ago, they used to sell a really heavy metal cleaner, door to door they asked you to hoover a mattress before they arrived and then showed you the lbs of crud still sucked out with their product.., i think it was American, it was the dogs do das. If anyone can tell me the make and if they are still going I would be much obliged. They were very expensive but would pull the skin off a cow... from Auntie.
