weird pay raise offer...

Be polite, but firm.

Let me repeat the above.

It's very easy to speculate on his motives, but they are not your concern - all you want is the pay rise, and to spend your money as you see fit.

If he throws a strop, then his motives will become clear, and time to put the feelers out for another job. Never, ever burn your boat until you have a better boat to board.

Been there, and moved on. Never regretted it.....

Given that a gym membership wasn't asked for, wasn't originally offered and generally was not "visible" as an option to you.

You should go back to your boss and ask for a go on his Mrs.

Alright you didn't originally ask for a go, a go wasn't offered but since it's all going off piste you thought you might have an ask - nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that.

Let us know how you get on (generally).

That is not a pay rise, that is treated as an incentive / benefit. So essentially this is not the pay rise that he has mentioned to you.

I would ask him for the honest reason's around offering this instead of the pay rise which as you say would be welcomed to pay bills and buy guns :-), if he mentions anything about your weight this can be treated as a grievance and you can take them to court over discrimination in the work place! I doubt they would offer this to a fat lass!

Without seeing you it is hard to really say it could be that he thinks that you have put to much wait on and he thinks that you are good at your job and he is woried that you could have a hart problems and he dose not want to loose a valuble member of staff I just thought that someone should play the devals advocate and give another point of vew.

The first question I would be asking myself is is he gay. If he is then I expect he would like to see you in shape and tight shorts. If he's not gay then he's banging someone he shouldn't be.

Hope that helps

He's married , with a 3 years old boy...

i was thinking the same at some point...

tell him he needs the membership more than you do as you spend many ours out in the field , now show me the money fatboy :good: .This works everytime or just pukker up and take the membership :friends:

Actually he's fatter and younger than me... :good:

Greedy sod is looking to shaft you out of your pay rise.

Tell him you want your money, not half measures.

Ask him if his offer is a direct comparison to the amount of effort you should put into his company.

More money more effort, after his puny offer put your feet up and start reading shooting mags.

Sounds like he wants a barter system.

Tell him you've asked your mortgage lender and sadly they won't accept full gym membership as payment on your mortgage.

How much is gym membership with personnel trainer, didn't think it was much a month.

Or is this gym a decerning gentlemens club of some repute, ooer missus.

You never know your personnel trainer might be Jessica Ennis that's why he said you can't refuse.

You could all ways tell him that you never knew he held you in such high regard as a valued employee to not give you the agreed pay rise and offer you cut rate, tax rise gym membership. Which will cost you money, ask him how you could ever repay such generosity, but you will give it your full undivided attention untill you manage it.

I'm feeling peed off for you.

being married to another man doesnt count

In the late 1960s, John was engaged to be married to his first lover, secretary Linda Woodrow, who is mentioned in the song "Someone Saved My Life Tonight". He married German recording engineer Renate Blauel on 14 February 1984, in Darling Point, Sydney, with speculation that the marriage was a cover for his homosexuality. John had come out as bisexual in a 1976 interview with Rolling Stone, but after his divorce from Blauel in 1988 he told the magazine that he was "comfortable" being gay.

From Wiki, so it must be right...

Is this offer of gym membership to go in company time?

It would be worth at least

1 hour training session

+ 20 min changing time

+ 30 min traveling time each way

= 2hr20min time off from your working day.

You don't have to go to the gym and could go shooting instead

Good luck :good:

No chance in company time mate, that would be a whole different story..

If it was me I would try to put it into an actual monetary value - if he was offering say a 1 or 2% pay rise on for example a £25k job that would be £250/£500 and taxable- if the regular value of a gym membership, ie what you would have to pay to join the gym in question, is £60/month + £100 joining fee thats £820 and perhaps claimed as a business expense? so he may actually be trying to offer more in a roundabout way?

Or he may just want to give you one in the changing rooms as others have said!
