Michaeli
Hi guys After going out last night for a quick look around and getting my nice o/u wet and not wanting to lie it on the floor I have decided I want a knock about gun. Only looking at cheap (sub £200) guns and there are a few about. Mostly hatsans but a few others. Having only shot a semi once and never a pump which one do I go for. Wanting it for a knock about / hide / rough shoot gun. So pump or semi? Thanks Michael
bighit1985
I've had hatsan semi since I started pigeon shooting and love it. They are easy to use and clean. I haven't used a pump before much but I can see their appeal and might treat myself in the new year.

vampire
Have had both,a manufrance pump action, brilliant gun built like a tank and if you only have a small budget then you could get a pump action for about £100 and theres nothing like the sound as you load a cartridge Best i had with the pump was 4 rabbits with 3 shots on pulling into one field B) Beretta semi is better though. bicykillgaz
I've got a 20g hatsan pump I'm thinking of parting company with, cracking little gun but my permission is mostly paddocks so just doesn't get used other than roosting the odd crow or the odd tree rat. Going to get another .410 instead. Looking for £200 for the gun or £250 with a couple of cartridge belts and a load of cartridges.
Malik
I personally would go pump. Most enjoyable to shoot and as mentioned above, theres nothing like the sound of reloading another cart...
wildfowler.250
It depends. As pumps tend to be cheaper than semi's I'd say you'd get a better pump action for similar money than a semi. But if I was happy to spend the cash then a semi every time. I'd rather a cheap over and under that I could bash about than a pump that I would have to work for every shot. But I wouldn't look past a decent semi auto over a double barrel these days
Michaeli
mmmmmmmmmmmmm Do like the idea of being in movie when shooting and reloading a cart. And seeing as it going to be use mostly for rought and fun shooting i might go for a pump. I will have a look around and see what i can get for my money. Thanks Michael
Shooting2
ive got a hatsan pump, had for it just over a year now, easy to use and clean, but most importantly has never jammed like a semi would. the hatsans arent the best looking but cheap enough and if you keep it clean will not fail you. used my pump for everything, even took it to scotland and got a triple on the geese with it this year, like you i didnt want to keep geting my o/u wet and muddy. but it all depends on personal preference others would argue a semi would be better, but cant comment on the semi autos cos never had one. Harnser
I really dont understand the reason why shooters dont want to use their guns for fear of getting them wet or covered in mud . I use all my guns ,some quite expensive and some quite cheap .I dont care that they may be out in adverse weather conditions . A good clean when I get home is all they need . Do clay shooters have a good gun for sunny days and a cheap gun for wet days ?. Harnser. Edited November 8, 2013 by Harnser
kent
Sub £200 I should get a S/S boxlock non eject. Although a great fan of semis myself you wont get much of a gun for sub £200- you could get a pretty nice BLNE s/s though
Gordon R
Given the OPs budget - it has to be a pump, unless he speaks to wabbitbosher on here.
mudpatten
For that sort of money, get a pump. And just keep practicing with it. Once the reloading stroke becomes second nature you can fire aimed shots just as quickly, if that sort of thing is of interest to you, as an auto. 30-06hunter
go for a pump, you can cycle any load.. cheap range semi's struggle on certain size and load cartridges. plus nice and easy to pop the breach open when passing gun over to a mate on the other side of the fence. you should look for a second hand mossberg.. bomb proof. iv got a mossy and love it. Beretta28g
I picked up a Mossberg pump in August and its now my main fowling gun. I love it. Best £200 (£200 for the gun and a further £60 to have it fitted and lengthened). I'm much more comfortable with it than I was with my semi. Go for one. I doubt that you will be disappointed. thepasty
pump, you'll get a nice one for 200 nickers. The pumping action becomes second nature, almost a reflex within a few shooting sessions. I dont have to think about pumping mine now, it just happens and happens bledy quickly. I've never felt held back by the fractionally slow reloading when compared to a semi. I also shoot a semi so theres no bias in my reply.
