jam1e
I've been tasked with thinning out the squirrel's in a local wood. The thinning out is coming along just fine, but various parts of my body are starting to look like a teenagers face! Most of me is covered up when in the woods, including boots, gloves, hat and full face veil. Yet the blitters still manage to get underneath and leave me with lumps and bumps when I get home. Can anyone recommend a good insect repellent? Cheers Jamie
Dunkield
I use Jungle formula, and if works for me it should work for you. They come from the next county to have a go at me :(
Boristhedog
A few dabs of tea tree oil seems to keep most of the little blighters off me.

moorvale55
Avon skin so soft or Pampers baby wipes. They HAVE to be PAMPERS as others do not work, own brand etc. I tried both and was fine.

Penelope
This is correct from what I have heard around and about. Strong Deet, but be careful where and on what you spray it. It melts plastics. Avon has changed now and found it's not as good now
Richie10
Oil of Ulay. Not sure it does much with gnats but your won't get wrinkles. Wouldn't it be easily to shoot squirrels when there is less leaf cover?
jam1e
Thanks for the further replies folks. I've got some Boots equivalent of Jungle Formula. States 50 % DEET, so will give that a try. Must remember not to lick my fingers after eating crisps though!! Richie10, you're right about shooting when there's less cover. But more so i hate pest control in the breeding season. I've got back on a permission after some years away, gave up shooting. Apparently, they do have someone "looking after the deer population". But from what I've seen it has no more or no less. Perhaps that's good?? Anyhow, I made a point of talking with him, even if just from a safety point of view. He wasn't interested, just harped on about using his "big .308" on the land, and stated how he was "looking after everything". In other words P*** Off! But after speaking with the land owner it turns out he's only interested in deer, and as the rest has not been touched, some pests have bred very well! The squirrels are wreaking havoc on her attempts to bring "song birds" and other more rare birds back to the area. Hence being asked, maybe politely being told (?) that if I want the perm then sort out the squirrels..... Jamie Oil of Ulay. Not sure it does much with gnats but your won't get wrinkles. Dougy
I am out at the moment and wearing a wrist band impregnated with geranium oil, and up to now my 2nd evening out have not been nibbled. And just this second dropped a fox ;-)

Dekers
Some of my taxes were returned to me historically in the form of British Army Fly Repellent. It came in a relatively short quite fat green plastic toothpaste tube affair. Excellent, unfortunately my contact is no longer in the army! ph5172
http://solutions.3m.co.uk/wps/portal/3M/en_GB/UltrathonUK/Ultrathon/ Can be picked up for about £3 a tube. activeviii
Use to use autan pump spray all the time. It was deet free and worked when I was fishing. Only changed as of late I found that the ticks love my blood. Using jungle formula now but have just read than its not great on ticks. Kept the horse flies off nicley and no ticks on Saturday, but found a little better up my arm last night. Also just read that rose geranium essential oil works well on both ticks and. Biting insects. One woman uses in on here dog like frontline, few drops on the neck and bum and as of yet, 5 years on and her dogs been fine. She lives in a tick infested part of the world. I'm looking for permathrin to spray over my stalking cloths. Any ideas?

jam1e
Avon skin so soft or Pampers baby wipes. They HAVE to be PAMPERS as others do not work, own brand etc. I tried both and was fine. Tried and tested the Pampers baby wipes. Have to say they work! Or at least this far.... I also tried "Repel Tropical strength" from Boots. 50% DEET. That works to! seeker
rather that wash yourself in repellant try spraying or soaking your shooting clothes in Pemethrin /elimite... stuff used on tents, moz nets, sleeping bags etc and other fabrics. Good for several washes and even put it on the hide nets. .. kept some deet for the exposed bits but never need it.
