pigeon controller
It was a very cold start to the day as I drove through the city to collect DB , we had been told of a number of pigeons the day before on some rape and headed out to view the field. When we arrived it was covered with frost but it had birds down ,not feeding but thawing the rape with their body heat . As we both watched through our bins you could see the birds had the sun on their backs they would then move to the section they had just sat on and start feeding on the thawed section. We decided to let them feed while we looked at two other fields in the area which also had a smaller quantity on them. It was totally windless so it was the sun that determined the position of the hide. We set up on a hedge in the middle of the field so we could shoot both sides to maximise the decoy display. We had the obligatory twelve decoys ten on frames and two on the magnet. we were set up for 10.00 and birds came in from the off. It was all going well till about 13.00 when it just stopped after thirty minutes I left DB in the hide and set off to look at the other rape in the area to see if they had moved on to that, on inspection they had no birds of any number so I returned via the chippy for DB was starving. As I turned up the lane I passed a parked Disco the driver was watching DB antics as the birds must have returned. I repositioned myself in the hide and took advantage of DB devouring the chips I had bought him, we shot till 15.30. Now as we left the pub the previous evening JDog looked up at the clear night sky and said" You will not shoot a hundred pigeons tomorrow" so that was the "Kiss of Death " for todays outing I was also instructed to change my pose for the picture and to wear my Christmas Jumper ( which I forgot to do) so I was keen to find the total for the day when the dog had finished searching for downed birds. On a other post I had stated that I had changed the configuration of the chokes in my gun so that the open barrel was the top . During the day I felt that it made no difference to my shooting but helped with the reloading. The total pick up for the day was one hundred and seventeen birds, another great day. aga man
Interesting that you witnessed the pigeons thawing the rape. i saw the same thing this morning whilst travelling. Quite clever really! Well done shooting a ton with bright sun and no wind, excellent fieldcraft. Your new pose looks so wrong though, you look like one of them pheasant shooters Edited December 29, 2014 by aga man

Dbw1shrops
Brilliant PC as always 👍 so that's what the birds were doing I thought they were feeding when we turned up at our perms at 9 this morning they were already down but this field I wouldn't entertain shooting just because of its close proximity of houses and roads ! Don't fancy a visit of the armed response while I'm out lol it took a good while for the rape to thaw today so we set up over the road on another field we had 20 flocked decoys and the magnet with Hypa flaps on and the first one that came in I dropped then my mate winged another and then nothing they just vacated the area to pastures new 😡 this pigeon lark is frustrating at times I don't now how you continuously keep coming up trumps PC but I take my hat off to you sir. dead eye alan
That dog seem's more miserable every time it has a photo took, may be due to the hard work it has to do. Great bag yet again, and still time to go to the chippy. Do not like the new pose and disappointed about the jumper. Good luck for 2015
