Given that my MP is Ed Miliband it`s pretty much just a waste of time voting. Might be worth a vote for UKIP just incase there is an upset. I doubt it though.

You've just given yourself the perfect reason for going out to vote.

Yes, it's unlikely Miliband would be unseated, but even a good squeeze on his majority (oooh matron) would be seen as a kick in the goolies for the man and the party.

If everyone takes that attitude in 'safe' seats they'll always be safe. Get yourself down the polling station and do your bit...it might not make a difference this time but you'll be safe in the knowledge that you've done your bit. You know you want to :good:

It would be interesting to know how many of those who voted in this poll will actually vote in real life (the best guide to which is whether you did last time)?

For those who queried an labour/snp alliance it is NOT going to happen. I have asked my friend and councillor who is SNP and its never been on the cards.

Nicola Sturgeon called on Labour today to join them in making a pledge to undermine a Tory government by joining them and voting the Tories down, is that not inviting an alliance?

So the swingometer is showing a swing away from tory :hmm:

Not really

I have always voted Tory but know that they will never get in here,

The next best thing to unseat Labour may be a UKIP vote in my area

Not that we want to swing away from tory but unseat labour

:shaun:

Blues for me, the way I see it the economy is doing better and looking to continue to do so. Every time labour have got in they manage to mess that up

Plus the idea of Ed Miliband leading the country just brings me out in hives, the man is a fool unlike his brother who would have made a much better Labour leader

Will that not put voters who are fed up with labour off voting snp if they are indeed going to form an alliance?

I don't know, it is a fairly unsubtle approach by her into trying to discredit Labour in Scotland I think. If they don't join her in that pledge she screams red Tories. If they say yes they will join her then she shows that a vote for SNP is safe and doesn't get the Tories in the back door as Jim Murphy suggests.

I actually think that she would rather see a minority Tory government and then try to sink them, it worries me that they are so fervently anti Tory, it borders on fascism really.

Someone voted Green, turkey voting for Christmas springs to mind!!

A few cut and pastes from their policy web page:

AR421 To extend the 1911 Protection of Animals Act to protect both captive and non-captive animals from unnecessary suffering. This will be used to prohibit hunting with hounds, shooting, snaring, coursing and various other abuses of our animal population. The Green Party is fundamentally opposed to all blood-sports. We oppose the killing of, or infliction of pain or suffering upon, animals in the name of sport or leisure, and will work to end all such practices.

AR422 To amend the Firearms Act to prohibit the use and private ownership of firearms and lethal weapons, such as air rifles, crossbows, etc., except on registered premises.

CJ500 Gun crime is a particularly serious problem and the Green Party is committed to tackling it by ensuring a high level of gun control as well as addressing the social factors which contribute to people committing crimes with guns.

Also, as well as their actual use, the presence and availability of guns and 'gun culture' contributes to fear of crime, intimidation and the reluctance of witnesses and victims to report crimes.

The Green Party is committed to introducing the following measures:

  1. Defining lethal weapons
The lethality of a gun will be defined quantitatively in law, thereby covering new weapons resulting from developments in firearms technology.
  2. Prohibited weapons
The most dangerous weapons will be prohibited. These include handguns, multi-shot and high calibre weapons. There will be a complete ban on the private ownership/possession of all automatic and semi-automatic firearms. A suitably constituted Gun Safety Advisory Committee will regularly review which weapons are prohibited.
  3. Deactivated weapons
All deactivated weapons will be treated the same as active weapons in terms of prohibition and licensing, as they are capable of being reactivated and can cause fear because they appear as though active.
  4. Licensing
A single rigorous licensing process will be put in place based on considerations of public safety rather than the convenience of shooters. Subject to relevant criteria, licenses will be issued for permitted shotguns and rifles, all lethal airguns and permitted deactivated guns.
Users of firearms for sporting or agricultural purposes will be required to demonstrate their competence in handling firearms and satisfy the authorities of their mental and emotional stability:
    1. Applicants should also be required to obtain the signature of, say, ten citizens (just as a prospective electoral candidate) who will vouch for the good character of the licence holder. This will discourage the 'loners' and socially isolated individuals who are most at risk of committing the horror that occurred at Dunblane and Hungerford.
    2. The cost of medical and psychological tests must be borne by the applicant, together with a new annual fee which is sufficient to repay the economic damage - to police, court and NHS - inflicted on it by the abuse of guns generally. When licences are awarded the onus will be on the applicant to demonstrate his or her suitability to handle firearms rather than on the authorities to prove the applicant's unsuitability. Licence holders will be required to renew their applications on an annual basis individuals whose licence application is rejected will be required to wait at least two years before re-applying.
  5. Imitation weapons
There will be a complete ban on the manufacture, sale and import of imitation weapons (replica guns and blank firers) and a ban on their public possession. There will be licenses for imitation weapons used for film/theatrical purposes, and legislation to ensure toy guns are highly distinct in appearance, probably by being made of clear/translucent plastic.

Voted.

Sadly, it's a tactical vote to keep someone out, rather than a vote of who I'd like to support :sad1:

TBH I'm still not sure I'm doing the right thing, but hey ho! - God help the shooters of this country if Labour get in.

I think it's a waste of time voting for what you want because you won't get it. Vote to stop what you don't want, has been my philosophy for a long time now.

looks like the latest polls put millepede well ahead, set for an overall majority even! seems that the cons taking middle earners to the cleaners and the constant hits to those on benefit and the cuts to the welfare state, defence, and the NHS, will come back to bite the plum gobbed clown.

If the cons are hitting so hard kW it might be worth asking who feels worse off under this government. Personally tax wise my personal allowance has gone up, the threshold for higher rate has gone up. My mortgage has stayed relatively cheap, fuel costs are down etc etc someone asked the question in our office the other day and most felt the same.

But you have to be slightly un blinkered and not blame everything on Europe and immigration.....

At the moment the uk is doing better than pretty much every other economy and that sure wouldn't be the case had labour stayed in and as for ukip being in charge that is simply laughable

Regardless of which way we all vote on this straw poll, I note that out of a "population" of several thousand, less than 200 have voted.

Much the same as in the real world. Voting should be compulsory.

In that case you would have to provide an extra box to tick that stated "None of the above"
