Rst1990
So.... Last year in August I was pulled over by police. Here is the old thread for refresh:- http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/292277-police-pulled-me-over/?fromsearch=1 Once again this Sunday just gone I was pulled over by the police and guess what... It was the same awkward policeman! This time I didn't have a firearm on me as I was doing some work on my permission. So he pulls me over into a lay-by I wait for him to come over and he asks me to step out etc He then asked me where I was coming from and where am I going, I told him etc He then said I know you, you was the guy with no docs for your firearm etc I told him I didn't have any on me and his reply was well let's have a look. I opened the boot and no I had nothing apart from a box of shotgun shells with maybe 10 rounds in which I forgot was in there. He then asked me for my licence! Which I told him I have not got it with me as I'm not shooting today he then said I was warned once and that he will be taking the shotgun rounds off me and I will have to pick them up from the station! I couldn't be bothered to argue with the guy as he obviously won't listen and I don't want the hassle over 4quid for shells. He is definitely anti shooting as he asked why I had a gun and I told him crop protection from birds, to which his reply was that's not very nice shooting them. Question is do I have to get them? Will it go bad for me if I don't?
fenboy
Anyone can posses shotgun cartridges even with no licence , I would collect them and ask to speak to one of his superiours .
AdamSouthEast
No license required to have cartridges, report him.
m greeny
Anti are bad enough but an anti in a uniform would be a nightmare. I would certainly get my shells back and ask to speak to someone in relation to the attitude of the officer but i would seek advice off BASC first

robbiep
Anyone can posses shotgun cartridges even with no licence , I would collect them and ask to speak to one of his superiours . Agreed. Make it clear to his bosses that their officer is going beyond his powers, and that you are not happy about it.

All these things I should have done but I didn't. To be honest I wouldnt have asked either if I remembered.
Gordon R
Either speak to someone of a higher grade or be prepared for another stop. Personally, I would retrieve the cartridges and ask for the Duty Inspector. I would explain that I was not making a formal complaint at this stage, but was getting seriously concerned about what had occurred. I would make it plain that if there was another incident, then I would make a formal complaint.
Carman06
I would go and collect the carts and put formal complaint in seeking expenses for time and fuel to retrieve the unlawfully confiscated carts. Then formal complaint for harassment. And demand the reason for the stop in the first place.
Redgum
Ring basc if your with them, I have just had a problem with a license renewal, did my bit but the police haven't done their bit, basc gave me some email address's for the complaints process. Apparently not enough of us complain about a service that we pay for.

DEADLY PLUMBER
Surely he could check your a licence holder on his radio with the control room in seconds. Also as a police officer he should carry out his duties without prejudice what ever his personal views are. Maybe your firearms officer can put him straight. I would pick up your carts and get his name and number just in case you get another tug by him. I carry a copy of my licence in my bag when out shooting mainly in case I get a tug. Dirty Harry
Just Hope He Pulls you again mate: THEN>> Ask for his FULL NAME and FULL NUMBER, When he has gone white and ask`s you why TELL HIM, you are having a word in the inspectors Ear. I don`t think he will bother you again, Trust me. I think you'll find most officers couldn't give a toss when people come out with this sort of drivel. To the OP if your car was searched you should have been supplied with a search record. If this was not done I would suggest collecting the cartridges and asking the duty Sgt or Inspector to look into it. If you feel that strongly about it you could make a complaint regarding seizure of your property. In my opinion he was wrong to seize them. ozzy518
He obviously hasn't got a clue. It's true you don't need a cert to be in possession of shotgun cartridges. An offence would only be committed if you were a prohibited person , ie had been sentenced to custody for a specific amount of time, including suspended sentences. He could easily have established that with PNC, likewise your holding FAC or SGC. You say he searched your car? He should have given you a form that he would have been required to do. He has to state on it his grounds and object of the search. His name and number will have been on it . He siezed your cartridges. Your lawfully held property. He needs a lawful reason to do so. Mate, go on the force website, there will be means to make a complaint there . You most certainly have grounds to. I also have been stopped by officers who clearly have little knowledge of firearms law . I give them a little bit of slack before they get educated in that not only do I know firearms law much better than they do. At this point I normally provide Id which confirms this lol Edited May 26, 2015 by ozzy518
