voodoo2762
Ey up Im looking into purchasing a pump soon for wild fowl and maybe some pigeons as a backup just wondering what peoples thoughts and experiences are with certain brands and what to look for etc. I've been looking at mossberg 500 and remington sxp ranges the price of how cheap the remington is puts me off a little but also heard that mossbergs seem to have lost some quality? saddler
Have you looked on the Pump Owners thread?
TbirdX
The SXP will do all you want and is cheap as they come. Just try it on for size first, the lop can be too short for some.
deadeye18
Ay up voodoo.I use an old winchester 1200 and its bomb proof!Tried a mossberg 590 a mate had and it was a brilliant bit of kit, solid, smooth to operate, all the contols were perfectly placed and it was well finished.i dont think the 500 is much different.ive never tried a remington. Duckandswing
I have an sxp as my bad weather back up. If its tanking it down I'll take that because at around £300 I don't shed a tear when it get wets. It hasn't let me down yet, but I have only put maybe 250 carts through it. I find it light and pointable but ugly as hell. Very easy to maintain too.
12gauge82
Bit more pricey but I love my supernova, I use it mainly in the hide or if I've been invited to do a bit of shooting with a friend as I would worry my browning would get damaged in the back of his land rover or on the quad etc. Only thing some people might struggle with its a big and fairly heavy gun but I'm a big guy and find it fits me beautifully although I have considered a shorter barrel for it you'll find any semi or pump is longer than a break open shotgun though
Caravanman
After months of chopping and changing my mindi finally took the plunge and got an SXP Waterfowl. Had it about a month and I like it very very much. Much prefer it to my old Mossberg 600.

Danger-Mouse
escort pumps are good, very smooth action, Yep. I have one I`m considering selling (not because of problems, just that I want a semi-auto instead for the pigeons).

voodoo2762
Thanks everyone for the replies! I think the only thing i can do is search around and try them all! I did pick up a supernova today and although it fit and shouldered perfect, i did feel it was too long. i do love my semi auto and O/U just want something bullet proof. Scully
In the past have owned a S1 Winchester Model 12 in 12 bore, another S1 Winchester Model 12 in 20 bore, a Remington 870, a Winchester 1300 XTR, a Mossberg 500 in .410 and am currently on a Smith & Wesson 3000. All have been great guns but the slickest has to be my current one, the S&W. Smoother than a thing with a pHD in smoothness. It's a keeper. Up until very recently I had 3 pumps in my cabinets, now down to one....but am currently awaiting a variation to replace my S1. Nothing sounds like a pump..except another pump. Browning 425 clay hunter
I've got a mossberg pump I use for the geese. Cheap, reliable and never let me down. ATB

Lord Geordie
Have a friend who had the SXP and I had a go whilst clay shooting! While it's not MY cup of tea! It certainly felt ok quality wise! He had put many thousands of shells through it, from clays to decoying! It never misses a beat. Me? I am a lazy ****** and like my semi auto
Underdog
I have had Mossies, 870 , Savage and Winnies. I miss the Savage and the Winnie 1300.
12gauge82
If you can handle the weight and dont mind the outlay you won't go wrong with a supernova/nova, you can get 24, 26, and 28 inch barrels I'd say a 26" barrel would be an equivalent length to a 30" over/under. I'm after a 24" barrel for mine as when I'm doing a bit of walked up rough shooting or close in, in the hide etc I feel it could do with being a bit whippyer
