Bry-M
My certs run out on 12th december and it was only today I sent all the documentation off 1st class recorded. Completely my own fault for not sending it off sooner. Having had a very quick look through this section of the forum it seems these things take months! Anyone else been in this situation? As it gets closer to cert expiry is it a case of putting the shotguns, rifle and ammo in storage with an RFD until the certs eventually come back? If your cert runs out, you can ask for a temporary cert to be issued, so you can hold on to your guns. I have had to do this in the past. ant.mass
I wouldn’t worry about i sent my renewal off this time last year and im still waiting for my cert im on my 2 temp cert
fortune
Don't worry about it. You've got the application in a month before the expiry date. Although they have started this nonsense about lodging guns they are going to have to issue a 7. It's No skin off of their nose. There's thousands of people who are on 7s. fortune
surely not. that is ridiculous. have you contact anyone basc etc? No it's very commonplace. Basc. If they had any influence this situation wouldn't exist, would it.

If they had any influence this situation wouldn't exist, would it. i had a problem with mine on last renewal which was late. to be fair i contacted basc they said tell them to issue you a temp cert. the certificate turned up 2 days late. but this should not be happening. i did not realise it was commonplace
Bry-M
Thanks for the replies, yeah I thought putting it in with 5 weeks to go would be fine, until I started reading! I'd be fine with a temp cert, at least I wouldn't be paying storage fees! Out of curiosity any idea how much RFD's charge for a rifle and a couple of shotguns? HDAV
When I moved local rfd charged £2/3 a week per gun iirc
Bear1cat
It all depends on how efficient your firearms team are. Some are really bad while others are good. I am lucky as mine are good. I moved house 2-3 months ago. Informed the firearms dept and sent my certs off. They were back in just over a week all sorted.
steve d
Changing the address on your tickets is a lot simpler than renewing though. Saying that, Hampshire aren't the best, inefficient would be a compliment
Breastman
A renewal needs to be made 'in good time' for the police to be obliged to issue you with a S7 certificate. It was determined last year that good time = 8 weeks before expiry. After that time they are not obliged to issue a S7, but they may still do so depending on which way the wind is blowing on the day
Bry-M
Been in touch with some local RFD's, am looking around £30 a month or thereabouts for storage of a rifle, 2 shotguns and 10 boxes of ammo. Doubtful I'll get the s7 but that's my own fault for not submitting with enough time.
Scully
Unless you have no choice I'd not store with an RFD as this means you can't use your guns until your new tickets arrive. As has been said, if our shooting organisations had any influence expired tickets wouldn't be an issue. Contact your FEO.
oowee
Is their a time limit as to how early you can submit your renewal, such as waiting for notification?
Breastman
Is their a time limit as to how early you can submit your renewal, such as waiting for notification? My FEO told me they wouldn't accept them earlier than 12 weeks ahead of expiry but i got the impression he'd just plucked that out of thin air. old man
If you respectfully request a section 7 temporary permit via email to the head of Firearms 10 days prior to expiry, why should there be a problem with issue? Don't forget a section 7 does not entitle you to possess any form of expanding ammunition, you should lodge that at an RFD. Don't make a problem, you won't get one. Bry-M
so my rifle would be useless then on a s7? how annoying. good shout on the email, i'll give that a go nearer the time. i'm only going to store with an RFD as a last resort. Paul1440
Lancashire write to cert holders at least 12 weeks before expiry. The letter states that renewals must be returned at least 8 weeks before the licence expires. If not then they won't guarentee renewal before expiry and all guns will have to be put into storage/disposed of at a dealer of be liable to prosecution. I got mine sent back the following working day after the notification in October so hopefully it should be renewed by the Jxn Expiry. grrclark
There has been a change to legislation of the Policing and Crime bill very recently that allows an expired certificate to remain valid for a period of 8 weeks beyond the date of expiry, however i'm not sure when this takes effect from and if it would be applicable in your circumstances. A phone call to your FEO may be beneficial. As mentioned above 8 weeks has become the accepted and agreed time by which an applicant is seen to have his renewal application in 'good time'. In this case the issued cert will retain it's validity for a further 8 weeks to stop the police having to issue a s7, so no disadvantage to the cert holder and no burden of duty on the police to issue a s7. I have no idea how practical this will be if the additional 8 weeks is contingent on having the renewal submitted in good time, how do they police that without an extra administrative overhead? Edit to add: I see a forum post about that very thing here http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/346813-key-improvements-in-firearm-law/ Edited November 11, 2016 by grrclark

How long and how many people was it before all of that nonsense about mentors was dropped. Right from the off someone should have thought"who is a mentor? What qualities and what qualifications do these people have? Where are they getting these qualifications and what validity is there in any of all this"? ozzy518
My Feo collected my Renewal forms last Wednesday. New Sgc arrived today!!! 7 day turnaround.. Fantastic. Suffolk and Norfolk firearms licensing are well ahead of the game.
