lord_seagrave
I want to be all holier-than-thou and preach about how the Foreign Secretary should tie the diplomatic line... ...but I can't! It's BoJo! You know BoJo, he speaks uncomfortable truths, he's a rogerer, a roarer. Stick it to johnnie foreigner I say. Huzzah! LS

fortune
It might not sit well because we are always trying to flog arms to Saudi but he is only telling the truth. they are all fighting a proxy war in Yemen. and we are supplying the arms for the saudis to bomb and distroy innocent people and smash another country. Next week they will be back out in the gulf and shaking hands. perhaps the russians will get involved or the chinese.
lord_seagrave
Was it a gaff? Eddie Mair floated this on PM this week. I honestly don't know. But I can't help feeling that good old BoJo is finding himself a bit penned-in by his new role. LS
four-wheel-drive
Its a funny old world where the British are quite willing to sell arms to dodgy countries like this but have band the sale of most arms to British people it would seem that we cannot be trusted to have guns but at the same time we see no harm in selling much worst things lick jet fighters and bombs and missiles to countries that still chop of peoples heads in public and all to make a quick buck. Vince Green
I don't think it was a gaff at all, he is deliberately putting political distance between himself and Teresa May. Maintaining his maverick image has never harmed him in the past Edited December 9, 2016 by Vince Green
GingerCat
Boris has a razor sharp intellect and I would suggest makes fair fewer actual gaffs then people give him credit for.

We had a customer in Syria that we dealt with for years, we recently checked the trade embargos to see if we can get stuff into the country legally. Basically the sanctions stopped everything from around 2011 but in 2013 one sanction was lifted..... the arms embargo. So we are not allowed to sell day to day things which could help rebuild the place but weapons and stuff to destroy it is perfectly legal. four-wheel-drive
He just said in a speech that we will be spending three billion pounds on defence it that area so are schools and hospitals are going down the plug hole though lack of money yet we can spend billion defending people like that I think that says it all. Hamster
The reason the Prime Minister has ticked Boris off is because the admission that the Saudi's are playing so called proxy wars ( look who's talking) is admitting that the UK is playing them too. Which it is. I have long said the news you get is a pack of lies and with regards to Yemen and Syria it is doubly so. Nothing you see presented on the news channels is the truth. norfolk dumpling
Bo Jo is no idiot but seems to be missing that filter between brain and mouth that a diplomat needs. My old dad was like that - very intelligent (and very generous to those he liked) but whilst mum was alive he was kept in check. When mum died it was gloves off..... Half the village loved him but the other half didn't. He was usually correct in what he said but boy did he upset a few before he died. anser2
Boris is now clearly showing how close we came to having a disaster for him as prime minister. The mans a fool if he cant see the importance of our relationship with countries like Saudi Arabia, ok they do things we do not like , but thats up to them , but his actions risk UK jobs and the countries fiances in a time when we an not afford to take such risks with Brexit on the cards. Vince Green
In one of the Shakespeare plays the court Jester says all the profound things that everyone is thinking but dare not say. He gets away with it in the play because he is just the Jester. A typical Shakespearian ploy.
