I heard a story the other week that Stephen King got paid $5000 dollars for the Shawshank Redemption rights, and he sent the cheque to the producer (or director) framed with a note saying "just in case" Edited July 29, 2017 by discobob
kyska
I'm not a big horror fan, nor am I a King fan, but I read so much he crosses my path a lot. I really enjoyed his 'masterpiece' the 'dark half' but blimey the film was poor. I was surprised how few James Herbert books were made into films, I was also surprised how little his death was covered in the news for such a successful uk writer. kyska
Cracking film but 3 hours long -.- If it were true to the book it would be as long as the life wasting 'lord of the rings' films! Absolute dross.

I'm a big James Herbert fan, not sure you could make many of his books into good films. His wife wrote all the sexual stories lines Very dirty as a young lad reading them for the first time

His wife wrote all the sexual stories lines Very dirty as a young lad reading them for the first time Weren't they just, it's funny there was several sexual lines in all of his books, well written though, I didn't know it was his wife. The Cottage would of worked, Ghost of Sleath done properly too. His words were we, in the UK, just don't have the want or need for horror genre like the US, hence why king has made so Ichihara cash from a lot of poor films and books, tommy knockers for example
washerboy
The cottage 👌🏻... I need to reread that one I read his last published novel, it started out well but got silly .

Scully
I read a lot of Stephen King books when I was younger; then I discovered he is an anti gun nut. Still good books( mostly) but I won't buy them anymore.
Dougy
Apparently to emphasise John Coffee's hight in some of the shots, he was stood on a box. Just thought I'd pop that in. ;-)
