Reputable Gun Shop Taking the ****

Recommended Posts

So I bought a couple of extended skeet chokes from a reputable RFD's online store, order placed and paid for no problems at all.

Four days later (one day after expected delivery date) I call them to ask if the order has been shipped only to be told that the chokes were listed at the wrong price on the website, and they were actually out of stock however they'd be happy to order them in should I pay the additional £30 for the 2 x chokes due to the price error.

I asked for them to cancel my order and return payment as I needed the chokes for the weekend so would have to go to a local RFD and buy some, I was rather nice about it as well considering they had somewhat inconvenienced me and hadn't let me know.

This was now 6 to 7 weeks ago and I haven't received my refund, i've called them each week after the first 2 weeks elapsed and got told 'oh yes sorry we will do the refund right away etc.'

I don't want to slander a company online as by all accounts there usually very good from what I hear. I'd be much angrier if it was a greater sum of money as admittedly it's nothing major but out of principle there taking the mick a bit now.

I'm frustrated with calling them now and would rather not go down the route of shouting at someone down the phone so would like to take a step in another direction.

I'm assuming a formal letter is the next stop? or will this be about as much use as a phone call appears to be? They always seem rather apologetic and make promises which never seem to be delivered upon.

Apologies for the lengthy post, just want to resolve this before so much time passes I can't be bothered with it or forget about it.

Did you pay with your card over phone or with pay pal .if any of those ring the bank or fill a pay pal form for them to claim it back .

You are covered with the bank as well . they pay you the money that you are owed and they claim it back

From the gun shop

There is a RFD not 10 miles away from me, just the other side of the M5 on the outskirts of Exeter. Before I even think of jumping in the car, I'll phone and do a stock check. If all is well, off we go. Should the answer be negative, I'll simply go elsewhere because experience reflects that the actual delivery bears no resemblence whatsoever to that forecast.

From that post i deduce you've had an adverse experience with said retailer.........Elaborate for us :)

Yeah I placed an order with them as it showed item was in stock at the time , They took my money ( about £100) got an email confirmation along with a delivery date. Two weeks later Im phone asking were my goods were only to be told that they actually stopped selling said item months ago , was given no answers as to why it happened . Also told I had to wait four days for my refund . Not used them since . Edited by stevo

As a retailer are you allowed to sell goods you don't actually have in stock.??????????

Taking money for an item you don't own is fraud, isn't it.

Used to be you couldn't charge the card but reserve the amount against it (forgot what's it's called) now seems to be the norm to take full payment then order from wholesaler and if out of stock with wholeslaermyour knackerd.... use credit card, don't mess about contact card company if no refund after 7 days, wait longer at your own peril................

One option would be to ring them up and advise that you will seek help from the citizens advice bureau and get in touch with the trading standards.

Option 2 would be to go in to your local branch and to ask to do a transaction dispute. This is as easy as it gets. Check your phone and make a note on when the calls took time and when the refund was promised. The bank will log this and then get a specialist team to investigate.

I have dealt with many customers having issues as such with all resulting in the funds being credited back to their accounts.

If going with option 2 I would still get in touch with trading standards.

All the best.

Can't even directly E-Mail the company only send a query which I've now done asking them to E-Mail me and sort this matter before the end of this working week otherwise I'll name and shame them on the forums etc.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

I entered my card details online to make payment so not got PayPal to request refund etc. in this case.

I'm sure this is just a one off, so I'll hold back there name for now as I know of other people with recent dealings that have been good.

It is not Sportsman Gun Centre.
