Veganism is a growing movement and I would guess is naturally linked to a climate change agenda even if ultimately the argument looks to be on shaky ground.

I found an article last week that gave the overall environmental impact (note not the trendy and misleading carbon footprint) of a Vegan lifestyle is actually higher than that of the conventional omnivorous one whilst the "carbon footprint" ,the way it is measured, whilst lower is only marginally so due to the extreme distances some of the food stuffs and other material need to be drawn from.

Veganism and vegetarianism are far from a 'fad'. whilst its certainly for some, a phase, that they go through for others its a firmly held view of what they believe is the right way to run their lives. I guess there are many holes in the argument to be truly vegan as many aspects of life will contain some element of animal involvement. I have a niece that is very firmly vegan and I took great delight in winding her up about eating figs, telling her that they could not be vegan as most contain the bodies of wasps.

I regard it as a fad ( rightly or wrongly ) because it is something only the affluent western society can afford to take seriously as part of a lifestyle.

I don’t mind it at all; it’s all down to freedom of choice, I just wish some showed an equal amount of tolerance to those of us who don’t wish to be vegetarian, or even vegan.

This^^^^^^

Also applies to the "specialist" eateries giving the same service that the "V" brigade seem to think is their right in other places.

It is a food fad for many people, not for everybody but it is being heavily promoted on social media targeting kids and it has grown as a result. Its a copycat thing for many. Years ago it was jogging

The average human produces around 365kg of Co2 every year simply by breathing. That figure rises dramatically when the body is exercising, anything up to 8-10 times the amount of Co2 is produced by those who run, jog, cycle and swim etc.

So for all those out there who like nothing more than to don their lycra, strap on their fitbit or slip into their speedo's remember this... you may be feeling morally superior to those who lead a more sedentary lifestyle but you're ******* up the planet with your healthy obsessions!!

Eh? You tried to order meat in a vegetarian restaurant, and then complained about it not being available? Seriously ?

maybe I should explain  my daughter did events waitressing, menu on the night was beef or turkey and any other requirements pre ordered, app 400 sittings however there was a couple there aware of all of this and had too much to drink and were absolutely vial to my daughter as not having a vegetarian choice at the table very shortly after they were escorted from the event ,   now move on a few years they opened a vegetarian restaurant,  my turn,    so the had a little bit of what for re meal choices etc  then I mentioned the night they were thrown out  and how do you think my daughter felt on that night    they did not know where to look

All of this talk of farming methods, fuel usage, electricity production, saving the planet, saving the forests, vegan diets, and whatever else is the flavour of the month misses the main point.

There are far too many people in the world.   Over population is the only thing that needs to be discussed.

It never is discussed.

If the over population of the planet was by any other species on the planet then our species would be out with the poisons and sprays bigtime.

Now I am not advocating that we do that, but surely it wouldn't hurt to discuss it.

Naughty Gandalf!

The population of the world has TREBLED in MY lifetime.

It will more than treble again in my Grandson's.

Why do we need all these people?

People now survive infancy and live to a ripe old age (I am glad to say).

Birth control is so simple and safe these days.

We should be paying people NOT to have children.

Would you have taken money not to have had your children? Perhaps we should only have one or two children, and that would slow down and/or reverse the trend?

Most definitely one or two Births to allow for multiples on the second but then some sort of sanction for ALL.

Can't really do that in some countries as many die in infancy, however the stats are slowly changing and birthrates dropping.

Different communities in the UK have differing views on birth control and abortion, for a variety of reasons including religious? Which affects birth rates within that community? Catholicism is just one example! Statistics only start to be useful when they give an in depth analysis.....overall figures tell you very little!........Certainly not the birth rate trends in differing communities!

I’m thankful that I have lived the last 69 years with relative freedom to-do what I like, these people worry me, their demands and actions are surely a form of dictatorship through the back door.

Most of these people seem to-be under 30 and are still wet behind the ears, they are locked onto their mobile phones like a baby with a dummy, social media is their life, whatever comes upon that little oblong screen is gospel, you only need the right people/person to feed the gullible with enough rubbish/lies and eventually they believe and follow the crowd.

If someone was trying to invent a way of brainwashing the gullible/young en masse then the mobile phone and social media would (is) the perfect tool.

If you had read the page I linked to then you would not have written the above.

I'm not interested in reading statistics, they are often skewed to show what the statisticians or their masters want them to show! Common sense tells me, people in communities who are prevented in law or don't believe in abortion and/or don't use contraception have more babies than those that can/do!.....or do you want to dispute that too?
