Spoonbed
Advice please chaps. Moved into a new house( bad timing!) at the start of February. Boredom struck today, so thought I’d cut the lawn( approx 80m2) Had the old electric mower from my previous house. Took me bloomin ages and filled all the compost bins etc. Not sure a ride on mower for this size( plus access issues) so was considering a self propelled mulching mower. Budget around £6-700 Any recommendations/thoughts please

strimmer_13
Lawnflite, hayter or honda hr series.
B391
I have had the same petrol Honda HR rotostop mulching mower and it has been brilliant and utterly reliable. Starts 1st time every time even after the winter.
discobob
Love my Viking- 15 years old and puts the hayter to shame which we have owned from new. The Viking was a main body from Facebook market place about 4 years ago. Grass basket was found on eBay early last year. the hayter needs emptying 4 times on our back lawn - the Viking does it in one pass
GingerCat
Got a cheap 100cc self propelled mountfield. It's done 7 years with zero maintenance and starts first or occasionally second pull. Mows large lawn. I'd Like A honda but can't justify it when this cost about 120 and does the job just fine.
vmaxphil
Honda all day long, harry is 15 years old and started first pull after 5 months in the shed same old petrol
WalkedUp
80m2 is not a large area to cut, any refurbished, cheap self propelled would do it without emptying the basket if cut frequently or mulch if cut very frequently. Spending £700 on a rotary seems insane IMO, a Honda would be overkill. Like a Ferrari for the school run. I would personally start by spending the money on refurbishing the lawn and then cut it with a hand propelled cylinder mower, with sharpened blades. If you are finding it hard in a year or two invest in a proper cylinder mower and get a great cut. Mind you total price would be £136,000 so maybe be a cheaper option to sell the house 😂 Edited March 22, 2020 by strimmer_13
bruno22rf
I picked up a tiny ride on for £200 - my lawn's not that big but the kids love riding the thing so they can cut the grass at the same time. Have to go round the edge with my Honda though - as previously stated excellent machines. Edited March 22, 2020 by bruno22rf
GingerCat
I'd love a cheap ride on, not seen one.

Smokersmith
Have a look at the Ariens range https://www.gardenmachinerydirect.co.uk/lawn-mowers/ariens-razor-sp-petrol-lawn-mower.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6vmS8uyu6AIVmLPtCh35bQh5EAQYBCABEgJJCPD_BwE Great design features and mine hasn’t missed a beat in years ... similar size lawn. strimmer_13
In all seriousness look on gumtree atm. Since the sun has shown its self, there are loads of bargains I've seen just today. I've just seen a gleaming viking for £100 and a hayter for £110. Depends where your location is Edited March 22, 2020 by strimmer_13
