The reason I ask is because I am acting secretary of a club at the moment. A member's FAC is running out and he has decided its time to give up. He has had his driving licence revoked because he is diabetic. His stuff is too good to hand in to the police. I have spoken to two RFDs that are mates. One says he is packing in doing guns, the other says everybody is phoning him up wanting to sell guns at the moment but he is reluctant to take them because he knows they won't shift for years. It's amazing how many people see rats when they are spending time at home. I have taken a few guns in but only to help people out. I know from experience that gun stores are reluctant to take in guns even in part exchange at the moment as with the lockdown very little is moving. Maybe contact one of those and ask if they would at least store the guns until we have some form of normality. It may only be a couple of weeks before shops are opening their doors once again. Wouldn't loan a moderated gun to try despite an offer being made on it. Reason being the Police would know he had traded during lockdown. Not worth his licence. Vince Green Posted May 3, 2020 Author Report Share Posted May 3, 2020 (edited) Interestingly, another RFD has been told (allegedly) that he is allowed to remain open because RFD is a specialist service (what ever that means?) which is needed for people to comply with the law with face to face transactions. However, as he said, with no customers whats the point? He's not going to sit in an empty shop all day getting fed up. But like WW he says everybody only wants to offload guns at the moment. HDAV Posted May 13, 2020 Report Share Posted May 13, 2020 I know one gunsmith is open for appointments only from tomorrow surely asking RFD to take them on a commission sale basis would be most sensible agree a storage transaction fee that way if another club member ever wants to buy them the seller can agree a price and RFD gets a fee for their time/trouble. enfieldspares Posted May 13, 2020 Report Share Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) Few RFDs will want commission sales on say a mark up of but 10%, if that, when it may cause them to lose the chance of a sale of a gun on which they take all 30% of the profit yet on which whilst it is with them on commission sale it is on their risk if it gets damaged or stolen. Same reason used car traders don't do commission sales. It's a business and unless you are a previous longstanding customer most won't want to know. It's all aggro for minimal reward if you haven't been a previous customer. Where did the subject of the OP's post buy his guns from originally?
