Smokersmith
I see the media is again searching for stories! Apparently 3 pubs have had people in, who have since tested positive for covid-19 …. surely this is good news! Think about the situation early March …. no social distancing, no testing, pub full = recipe for R rate through the roof Now ... Limited numbers of folk, socially distanced, tested, isolating where necessary, pub cleaned …. has to be a great example of how the measures can and should work, instead of trying to get all hysterical about it!! mgsontour
Think OP is right and agree with you all it's far from over. . . . I may throw this into the mix too. . . . It's not impossible to conclude at this early stage ( similar to HIV vs AIDS ) that there are more hosts ( with no symptoms ) than we think and not everyone they come into contact contracts C19 as they are immune to this particular strain. . . . Just some thought for your morning coffee lads

They were all in the pub, or sat outside it, last weekend. No youngster at all, as in none. The others are those around my age....60ish; mortgage free but still working. Admittedly, those out on the lash in the towns and cities are much younger.

We have 4 pubs in the Parish, the 3 in the village centre as far as was reported stuck to the "rules" and were mainly locals. The 4th which is about 200m from us, unfortunately met the demographic of my comments.

The flu still kills thousands of, primarily vulnerable, people every year. A bit like CV-

Walker570
Never had a flu jab in my life and to my memory never had flu..... a bit of a sniffly cold on rare occasions, there again I do not hang around in crowded public places. I have one or two friends who always seem to have a dose of flu or colds and I think it is not only your 'make up' .... no not sort of make up....but also where you frequent. They gave a figure of around 1500 CVD cases in Leicestershire but I bet at least 80% of those where in the City of Leicestaer. Says it all. How many deaths in the last twelve months related to the effects of smoking including those awful vapour thingies? Of course a fair amount of tax flows in from those., so no big rush to ban them. Plus of course the fumes from these 'fags' can also kill innocent people as well. Edited July 7, 2020 by Walker570

Think you will find that ‘Caring’ for someone with the flu and not having had the correct flu jab ( just remember the vaccine/jab is based on guesswork as to which strains ‘might’ be prevalent that season) will also put you at risk and just as Corvid “could”, so “could” catching that strain of flu, place you in the ground. Believe that many are not actually aware of ‘seasonal flu’ mortality rates, across all age groups

Believe that many are not actually aware of ‘seasonal flu’ mortality rates, across all age groups That may be true, I wouldn’t know, but I’ve never heard of someone treating a flu patient subsequently dying as a result, whereas I have heard of many dying as a result of treating someone with the Covid virus. Im pretty sure it would be news if the former was as common as the latter.

If their happy to go the pub after being tested their happy to go shopping or work, which means it will spread. Its beyond me how the pubs are open while people aren't back in work? Thats why no one catches the flu anymore The flu vaccine is usually around 50 % effective enough to keep it under control, few vaccines are 100 % effective. Quote To have herd immunity and protect lots of people from disease, a very high percentage of people in any one area need to be vaccinated. This is called the threshold. The more contagious a disease is, the higher percentage you need, to get herd immunity against 93% to 95% of people in a community have to be vaccinated. In other words, about 95 out of every 100 people have to get the vaccine to prevent the disease. 6 hours ago, AVB said: People who realise it isn’t a killer for the vast, vast majority of the population.
