Yellow Bear
We had a similar problem where they denied making the noise and, with help and support of our neighbours, solved it by recording their Saturday night party at 2 in the morning. Then playing it back to them at 7 the same morning through a 500w PA system. They could not deny it was them as they called to each other by name and said this will wake the ******* and it's only 2. We literally have a private airport not far from my house but he like last to keep in behind his house. Moral of the story I built a gun range behind my house and nobody calls the cops. We all have a understanding that It Is What Is! At any giving moments you can go outside and see people riding dirt bike, shooting skeet, or running race cars up street and nobody complains. I have the best neighbors. That's invoked all sorts of images in my head 👍
McSpredder
Involving authorities or the press might be unwise if you ever want to sell the property. Standard question when selling a house is whether you have had any dispute with neighbours. Answering "YES" may deter potential buyers. If you falsely answer "NO", a buyer may be able to take legal action against you. FEO might get to hear about things, and conclude that you are the sort of person who tends to get involved in disputes. Perhaps better to let some of the other neighbours do the complaining. Pistol p
John prescott introduced a law in 1997 that says if you feel you are being harassed you can report the offending party and even if the offending party are found innocent, the charges will permanently remain on their record. Its a real ****** because I've had it used against myself and even though I was proven non guilty I'm now tarnished goods.

WalkedUp
Deadly serious I’m afraid. Unless you live >250m from your nearest neighbour then I feel it is antisocial at any time of the day. Same as having music on full and windows down whilst driving. Imposing yourself on others who have no choice.

What about someone power washing their driveway or car, or using power tools? What about a petrol lawnmower or strimmer? What about the sound of kids playing and laughing? WalkedUp
None off that list, just the music. The noise from all those activities is incidental to the activity - whereas having music playing loud enough to be heard outside of one’s property is just noise pollution. I'm very grateful that i have a relationship with my neighbours that if i hear music from their gardens I could not care and likewise them with me. I like to think that each of us enjoy our gardens and the activities that can be had in them, including listening to music. I guess we're a street of hooligans. What about someone power washing their driveway or car, or using power tools? What about a petrol lawnmower or strimmer? What about the sound of kids playing and laughing? Good point. There is a lot more to it than just the volume of sound. The number of decibels can be measured, but perception of nuisance is another matter altogether. Football fans find the chanting from a crowd at a match to be thrilling and inspiring (so I am told), where somebody with no interest in the game might find it infuriating. High notes from an operatic soprano will be glorious music to one person, while the next person considers them to be hideous screeching. Proponents of “green” energy may find the low-pitched hum from a wind turbine helps them to sleep, other will say that the same noise keeps them awake all night Other peoples’ children usually sound worse than your own. Psychoacoustics is a branch of science dealing with such matters. I know nothing about it, but the word was mentioned when I attended a short course on workplace noise assessment about 30 years ago. Your lucky that you don't live next door to me , I need to run my stereo at full volume , so that I can still hear it while I'm chainsawing 😊. We all need to show a little bit of tolerance towards neighbours, and they the same with us . You might dislike loud music , but , when you're shooting, someone somewhere is tolerating it 👍. But Mel, tolerance is a two way street! If you or the neighbours in the original post showed some respect for their neighbours by being more reasonable about the volume and timing of loud music, then the offended persons might not have been so offended. I don’t mind the chainsaw, it’s the music! Incidental noise, mitigated as far as possible I can deal with. Wanton noise pollution I find unacceptable. I will not have dogs barking. Mine or any others. No music played in the garden is just a standard my wife and I have both been brought up with. I guess it may be strange to some. She comes from a family of musicians, had a choral scholarship to Oxford. I am quietly always disappointed in my few clients who want outdoor speakers (or televisions in the bedrooms but that’s another matter). My favourite client instructed the AV designer take all of the outdoor speakers out of his proposals and his property runs into many acres. It is good that we can all find areas where our societal values match those of our neighbours. My neighbours have been building an extension for 12 months. The noise is no issue to me, the builders occasionally block my driveway but I am happy to ask them to move. A few months in one of the roofers had a Makita ghetto blaster on, my wife was annoyed as we couldn’t use our garden due to the din. I simply went onto their roof and asked them to turn it off. It’s been great ever since.

DUNKS
I have excellent neighbours. All retired but still they have to do their DIY, lawn mowing etc on a Sunday, same as they have all their working lives! Does not annoy me, Sunday very much the same as any other day when you are retired. Apart from church of course! DUNKS
A few years ago our daughter in Canada had a visit from the RCMP "local coppers" Excuse me maam but we have had legitimate complaints about your barking dog. We will give you one week to do something about it and if it's still barking most of the day we will have to remove it to the dog pound.! Turns out it was not her dog but a neighbours. Gardens are so big its difficult to tell where one property ends and another starts. I thought then that that was the way to do things Local coppers being able to police their own areas.. .
