paul1966
reading the reviews on trustpilot they have some shocking customer service, but then again so does BT, The provider with the best reviews is Zen internet but price wise they are the same as BT! Looks like i am staying put at the minute.
enfieldspares
I've just had £75 compensation from Plusnet for them ceasing their service four days early leaving me with a four day gap between leaving Plusnet and going with BT. Which was a PITA as I needed to receive an email then download and print out a covid PCR certificate and also boarding passes and etc. for my son's mother to return to the Emirates on day three of it all. So had to take my laptop to a bar with internet and then email what was sent to a copyshop to get it printed. So I threatened them with OFCOM and they offered £75 to make the complaint "all go away". But to be fair when I was with them it was for three years and they were actually OK. The only reason I left was that they don't offer the welcome giftcard to people renewing the contract only to new customers. So, yes, I walked as loyalty seems but a one way street to these companies nowadays. But also like so many other companies their "expert" who if you've a problem you get through to is all too frequently someone reading from a script and if your problem doesn't fit their script you're kippered. old'un
Ive been with Plusnet for about 10 years, always had great service from them when things go wrong, I have just been moved onto their superfast broadband FTTC, I get around 40mbps down and 10mbps up, the package includes line rental, any time calls free (up to an hour) and free caller display all for £21 per month. My advice would be to stay with BT because. . . . . it sounds to me that BT don't have many customers sharing your line thus you had no problems. Change supplier and you might regret it, try other saving ideas

That's good to know, I think with asking for opinions on the net you will always get very mixed opinions and the people who leave reviews on trustpilot or other review sites are likely to have had bad experiences. Both ourselves and my parents are with Plusnet and we have also previously been with them and had zero problems at all. My parents had a problem with their line always dropping out that BT internet gave up on and was sorted with Pilsners intervention ( I know it was Openreach, but for some reason they pushed more to get It fixed). When we moved here we had a problem with like stability ( whole village is pants) and they offered the option to try reducing the line speed as a trade off for stability and it’s worked a treat. 2 hours ago, enfieldspares said: I've just had £75 compensation from Plusnet for them ceasing their service four days early leaving me with a four day gap between leaving Plusnet and going with BT. Take a laptop to a Bar, I take it that you don’t use your phone to do carry out such matters. We print directly from the phone and as to printing boarding passes, it’s 2022 you know. Even my 88 year old parents use an iPhone with the relevant Airlines app.

I used to work abroad until covid. I have a small that fits in any size pocket cheap black and white screen telephone that makes calls and sends and receives 144 character text messages. No "apps", no Wi-Fi facility but it does have an inbuilt torch. It doesn't tempt anyone to steal it and even though I may be out and about from 8.30am until 11.30pm (or later if God forbid having to attend a police station or a hospital) I don't worry about not being able to find a charging point or carry a charger or if it hits the deck about the screen getting cracked. And no it doesn't do printing either.

Cosmicblue
Given that BT/Openreach own most of the infrastructure and alternative suppliers are just customers of BT Wholesale it doesn't make a lot of sense to not use BT - in the event of a problem there is only 'one throat to choke' rather than having two companies that can blame each other. I had been on an old contract for years and the cost was £190 per year line rental and £10 per month for any time phone calls and copper broadband @8mb which worked out at around £25 per month, recently they informed me that they could no longer offer this package and ask me to choose another-one so I went for their 36mb fibre including line rental and anytime calls for £22 per month, after a bit of haggling they knocked a £1 off, so £21 per month…..https://www.plus.net/broadband/
sandspider
Plusnet were fine for me for a while, but after BT took over, quality and service went right downhill. No accountability, engineers never turned up, speeds went down and down and they couldn't have cared less. I wouldn't go back.

Not so. Openreach is now established as a separate company, so if even if your connection is provided by BT, the choking has to carry on down the supply chain. Second, there are plenty of stories before the BT-Openreach split of the internal communications between different departments of BT being so poor, that often people got better service by being a customer of someone other than BT, because the operatives at the third party ISP knew their way around BT’s departments and could game the system. Back in the present, due to now living rurally and no longer being anywhere serviced by Virgin’s Cable network, I am back to that crusty "10 pounds of effluent in a 5 pound pail" that is DSL, even if it is “fibre”. My Third-party ISP (Shell energy in this case, £21/month for ‘fibre’ which is 25-40meg range) informed me that it would be at least 2 working days before Openreach could investigate a fault. I went to walk the dog later that same day and apparently missed the Openreach chap, who came back the next day and fixed the issue at the exchange in approximately 15mins. So, their communications are still a wheelie-bin fire of the proportions that only a privatised former state monopoly could hope to achieve, but their front-line operatives seem to be all excellent from my dealings with them. Anyway, look for savings elsewhere if satisfied with your level of service.
Cosmicblue
I did have the doubtful pleasure of working closely with BT and encountered 1st hand the woeful lack of integration between the internal systems at BT so the sales organisation didn't have transparency of what the engineering capability was planning/capable of delivering so whilst Openreach has been spun off as a separate company nothing has really changed in that regard. One positive move however was the demise of 'Region 6' aka India for customer support - that's all been bought back to UK which as improved customer service. The availability of a decent broadband connection is now see as an essential service utility as the world has become dependent on the 'net. I notice the Rightmove house search engine even includes broadband availability in its details - people now seek this when looking for houses. Maybe Elon Musk will have the answer for rural properties? Edited February 24, 2022 by Cosmicblue
Demonic69
We had Plusnet for the last year, can't fault the service or the price. Even the router was decent, though nothing special (we use a mesh system instead). Just moved away from them to BT, but only because they couldn't provide our new FTTP. Had to speak to them a couple of times and they've been brilliant, even waiving the 14 day notice period because BT messed up.
