Neither Labour or the Conservatives are fit for office. The whole system is broken, and there is no repair in sight.

We need to send a message by not voting for either of them (or the illiberal undemocrats), but it's never going to happen.

I used to vote Conservative to keep Labour out, but they have lost my vote for good. Not sure where my vote will go yet, but it certainly won't be Labour or the illiberal undemocrats.

I think the government have seen that there’s a really really nasty long and deep recession coming - we and Europe are still dealing with the mass printing of money from 2008, covid, furlough and now Ukraine and add in Brexit in the middle of all of it.

There’s no good news and we’ve got nothing in the tanks. Europe is in a similar position but shackled to the euro and euro rules and regulations.

The only way out for us is turning london into Singapore on Thames - dealing with an over heated economy with full employment is the better of all of the Hobson’s choices.

What I can’t stand is the politics of envy - the idea that making the rich poor solves all the problems. Bitter green eyed socialism right there.

My own observation is that following covid the world (and certainly the UK) has lost a large chunk of the will to work and get on. There’s an expectation that everyone is now entitled to everything they want - money, house, Merc on the driveway, a state pension, an NHS with unlimited funding, police on every corner etc.

We really do need to teach economics at gcse and in every school as a mandatory.

"If socialists understood economics they wouldn't be socialists."

Maybe this is why it is not.

I’m going to borrow that 👍

When I look at all the options and the useless spend heavy high tax (non) Conservative government of the last 10 years, I was quite cheered by this budget. At least it’s not more of the same grey liberal do nothing nonsense  😆

Strap in, it’s going to get interesting for sure.

Oh and if anyone wants a canter through the history of tax, give the Dominic Frisby audio book a listen. By the end you’ll be sold on the original 10% flat rate HK tax system. Keep it simple, keep it affordable and above all keep government small.

Alternatively, folk could just get on with things instead of whining. Just a thought. 🤷‍♂️
Nothing any of us do will change our lives or our way of lives significantly.
I started full time employment in 1976; I’ve been through boom and bust countless times, either with a mortgage or not, recession on a global scale, redundancy several times, not knowing where my next bill payment is going to come from etc etc etc 🥱🥱
I’m still here, I’m healthy and I’m happy.
For a country that is ( some claim) going to the dogs, there are more new cars on the road than I’ve ever seen, people are still dining out in exclusive restaurants, holidaying at least once a year ( believe it or not, there are some travelling abroad to kill stuff for fun! 😀)  and according to some, there are more people trying to get into the UK ( by both legal and illegal means ) than any other part of Europe! Makes you wonder why doesn’t it, considering what a ****hole some claim it to be!
Can I suggest you just get on with your lives and stop whining….life is far too short to spend it blaming someone or something else for your perceived misfortune. None of us are here for long, best get out there and enjoy yourselves while you still can. 🙂

👍☝️👍

Indeed, I think the takeaway from that is that if ‘you’ are waiting for the government to sort ‘your’ life out for you, then you will have a very very long wait… 🙂

Exactly this!
There are a lot of people out there who for some reason I can’t quite fathom, believe they are ‘owed’ something.
It is up to each of us to cater and provide for ourselves and our dependants.

Spot on, I wouldn't know what it's like to earn £150k and don't care.

I haven't even looked at the budget,  nothing much will have changed because it rarely does.

People are still buying new stuff, ordering take aways and generally doing as they please.

Watch how much money gets wasted at Halloween and Bonfire night, then it's Xmas.

Then try saying again that the country is on its rear!

Agreed. We are told every day on the news how dreadful it is here, how the government are failing and so on. Not so but if it is for you - fix it, do something, try something - don’t wait or depend on the government.

Well if that does happen we can expect a single run of a labour Government, followed by the Tories getting back in to start putting all back in place again.

I imagine that’s why they voted for Truss.

Tactical move knowing she will be one and done?

I really think the Tories have misjudged the current situation.

They initially floated the idea of raising the 40% threshold from 50k to 80k, would of got a lot more support for that.
