Yes that's lovely Henry, but the fella who searched the river (and that's from bench to body) and who has the sonar logs / recording says she wasn't in the river at all - that's river surface and river bed, they searched the lot.

He's added that the police divers did likewise and that the police also searched the banks, the reed beds on both sides and intensively between bench to body.

The specialist diver chap is adamant that she wasn't in the water between bench to body and that either means the police fouled the search of the banks / reed beds or she didn't go in the river either when everyone thought she did or at all.

More will out.

But the point is, this bloke is an expert and he was there and so we should hear him out.

Absolutely, not denying what he said, but the body could still have been drifting in and out with the tide or could have been missed due to the depth of water at the time of search.

I'm sure that we all thought Michael Fish was an expert to be listened to in 1987 too.

Sorry I've got to say something....I have fished the river Wyre for over 40 odd years and I know every bit of the river upstream for at least 4miles and down stream up to Cartford Bridge. Now where she went supposedly went in the water is about 12-14ft deep and its a still moving bit of water, a back eddy to effect so if she drowned there her body would of sank and stopped there....in theory...to get into the flow you have to get at least half way across the river. After the deep bit it shallows up for 40-50 yards to about 4ft then it hits another bend where it deepens off again to about 6ft then the pace picks up again to the weir. Now someone said on here the body wouldn't get over the weir, their wrong, it is a strong flow. What I haven't heard is was the river Brock searched which joins the Wyre about 250yds upstream of where she supposedly went In. You would struggle to get a search boat up there but it is navigable by wading she could of easily gone up there on her own or been forced no-one will ever know. Another thing is above the weir for the past 3 weeks the river has been low it hasn't rained much until Friday when the river started to rise and the amount of flood water could easily dislodge anything. Now the **** bit, my daughter and her partner and my granddaughter live in St Michael's about 250 yards away from the bridge that goes over the Wyre they have been harassed by total ********* from tv media, newspaper reporter's to so called amateur Sherlock Holmes sleuth's climbing over their back garden fence searching for Nicola swearing at my daughters partner for saying get out of the garden. Now he's a bit more laid back than me still a big lad like but me I would of torn them a new ********. The police at first not wanting my daughter's cctv then come grovelling for it after a week saying they are looking at things differently now. The way the police handled the case in that first week was a shambles in my eyes but others will say differently. I have a lot more to say but my arthritis in my fingers is doing my head in that's all for now

Not doubting what you are saying and things may have changed since we were there but my recollection of the weir was the head of water going over it did not look deep or fast enough to carry a body over it, I will admit it was some years ago and the weir may have been altered in that time.

Interesting post mick.c, sorry to hear of your communities troubles. What a sad set of circumstances this case has provided. Over my adult life we have had 3 similar incidents on my home river (although thankfully none recently), on each occasion the local angling club members have been asked to help the search on two occasions it was an angling club member who found these poor people, and on the third it was suggested by the club that divers searched a particular spot, which is where the body was found. Local knowledge counts.

Yes, maybe after the on line begging total is in excess of £33,000, it can be  ?

Maybe, I still find it odd how all the so called experts say she went in the water by the bench above the weir but her body was found well below the weir.

A good friend of mine is a retired Police Diver. He had some 25 years experience and said that bodies can do strange things in water. The river, I believe, is tidal to the weir and with 2 tides in 24 hours who knows what can happen.

After some searching I found this recent video of the weir, would a sunken body go over this? The weir is about 8.33 in

He’s such an expert they’ve thrown him off their specialist support list 😬

I am unable to answer that, I'm sure it would depend on the water levels at the time.  I have fished some rivers where the water level has risen whilst I was fishing, forcing me nearer the bank. Some rivers rise and fall exceptionally quickly.

I saw that on the news.

Bear in mind the police searched the river before with specialist units then he had a go.

Hopefully the inquest will deliver some answers.

He hasn't been kicked off the list. I understand his place on the list is under review - which, given what has happened, is understandable.

He didn’t exactly tow the line 😆

And blimey…. interesting to see the weir
