samboy
Hi gang. I have recently noticed that more shops have signs on the counter saying cash only. Any thoughts on this ?.

Card fees are increasing with the hidden "transaction" and "processing" fees, I have seen an increase in fast food takeaways in particular only accepting cash and the cynical might assume they are on the fiddle
Bigbob
Every fast food shop here has cash only sign's if anybody goes in and try's to order with a card they are told where the closest cash machine is , and everything is now cooked to order . A tax scam or less food wastage ?>
scobydog
My local Bakers has asked people if possible to pay by cash, last month they had to pay £406.00 in card charges, this is a very small business , husband and wife team getting hammered by banks. Scully
Chinese in our local town has been there for over 25 years, has always been cash only. A pop up car wash run by a few Turkish lads ( some of whom were in a mad rush to get a local girl pregnant for some reason 😂) in the town has always been cash only, but they’re a decent bunch cos all profit on a Sunday goes to charity! 👍😂😂

Scully
Personally I think it’s a good thing; there appears to be a push by certain ‘establishment’ to do away with cash, this can’t be a good thing.

Me too. If buying stuff I always remove the cash from ATM and pay for it like that.
Dave-G
New 'arrivals' here get a decent grant if they set up a business here - and they don't need to show a profit. Cash helps to also claim low income benefit top ups. Last car I sold went to an arrival - he had to read off his driving licence to copy his name spelling correctly! I stumbled onto advice for it years ago but skip read it as it didn't apply to me, and I can't find it now, particularly since I don't need to. Specialist and government funded immigration advisors would know where it is. Here's a starting point if you want to try and dig it out in your own time. https://www.ukstartups.org/grants-for-new-immigrants-business/ Are you taking over from Henry? bigroomboy
I wouldn't be too happy about it, probably so they can choose how much to declare for Tax purposes. Lots of smaller businesses are actually doing cashless because they save money time and risk in banking. Most small towns no longer have a bank branch so you may have to travel along way to deposit cash = time and money. Plus you do it less often and are transporting large amounts of cash which can be lost or stolen. The only reason to force a cash business is to avoid paying your way in this country so I avoid them. If you want to be part of this country pay your way.

Sadly so and why, solely due to the fifth rate politicos and their useless civil servants in post at the time? Many illustrate their incompetence with a plethora of awards? cuffy
Cash is good . I was in a well known sandwich shop the other week , huge queue . The staff announced the card machine wasn't working so cash only , suddenly there was only a few left in the shop !! Result .
Acerforestry
The general push toward "cash only" I reckon is simply people becoming aware of the aim to make a lot of the developed world cashless. Not a great proposition, governments trying to convince their public that will be so much better for them is a joke, it is all about control and surveillance
Scully
A cashless society is dependant on a power source, which is why I beaver away cash at every opportunity. I use my debit card and a sum up on a regular basis, but will take cash whenever I can.
manthing
My business account isn't that busy but I still get £30 - £40 a month in charges. If I was to get a card reader aswell that would increase my bank charges and I'd have to pay for the card reader also... Banks charge businesses for everything. Can I ask why you have a business account? You don’t have to tell me of course. I’m a self employed specialist painter and when trying to open an account with a building society due to our bank closing down, they tried to insist I opened a business account. They couldn't answer my questions when I asked what the benefits for me were; basically what was in it for me was how I put it. I went elsewhere.
