Christmas tipple,,,,,

I like a decent scotch now and then, so thought I'd get a different one for Xmas.

My preference is Aberlour 12 year old, or 14 year old if can get it, so popped in to Majestic and enquired about anything similar to my favourite. The whisky 'specialist' suggested this,,,,

,,,, I won't open it until tomorrow night, after my beef rib-eye dinner 🥃🎄🎉

Anyone else have a special Xmas tipple ?

About the only drink which interests me is single malt whisky.
I am normally very abstemious, but, maybe once or twice a year I ‘fall in with a bad crowd’, which may consist of any one of a few friends. When that happens then the stopper is pulled and “we’ll nay be needing that”.

Oddly enough, although wine sends me straight to sleep and beer gives me an horrendous headache and makes me bad for days (hence I drink neither of them) no matter how much whisky I drink I never have a hangover provided I stick to whisky.

I hope it is a good as you hope.   :good:

I have a family get together on the 27th so will probably take a rather good port.   :cool1:

And some good strong British cheese to go with it I trust. Enjoy your day whatever:good:

hello, on my beating days we stop for eleven for some cooked sausages or sausage rolls and i have become partial to some Sloe gin with a dash of Prosecco , well not to many glasses ???😁, give it a try 👍

Known, I believe, as a "sloegasm" ,  we have it as an aperitive on Yuletide.    Have a good midwinter festival of your choice.

I don't drink either.

Used to years ago but now don't bother. Designated driver all year round.

Still take the odd zero alcohol Guinness but nothing stronger than that.

There are some cracking alcohol free or just 1% IPA bitters for sale now.

For ma a drink to savour will be port.

If anything ruins a good sloe gin it is putting fizz in it. Yuk!

I may just try the bottle on the right (ran out of labels hence the scribble over the old one) as the one on the left is far too young. I`ve hidden a couple of older bottles of sloe gin in the shed which are around 5/6 years old, but now cannot find them:hmm:. Ah well, they will only improve and take on more of that golden colour.

It's a good idea Chris, but really GOOD Port needs no accompaniment.

Yes, you`re probably right there Dave.

When my mother died we found a bottle that was nearly 30 years old.
It had gone quite thick and syrupy but was very nice.

I wonder if i'm the only one on here who doesn't drink.

I don't really drink, Christmas and Birthdays aside.

I find that the following mornings become following afternoons very quickly once I've come around and it's all a bit of a waste of the day. I'm usually up early on a Saturday and Sunday anyway doing something shooting or fishing related.

I don't want to be sat on my deathbed wishing I'd spent less Saturday and Sunday mornings in bed with a hangover. Some may side with the opposite.

Though when I do have a drink I love a guinness. I can happily sink them all night without feeling bloated or gassy. Lager leaves me with a headache and cider leaves me ****ting bullets the next morning.

I think some on here are taking 'having a drink' as 'getting drunk'. In my case, as I've said above, it's not about getting drunk, it's enjoying the flavour and, if I'm honest, the relaxed feeling after having a little bit more than usual. Haven't been drunk since the late 70's, an experience that put me off vodka for life !!! 😧😂

Since then, my body tells me when to stop, and that's usually quite quickly 🙂
