The cost of the catches is £20 including VAT but the transit, VAT and customs increases this to £85.  The cost is an additional £20 for each catch purchased and so long as no more than 5 the other charges remain the same.

Taking control 🤣 :thanks:

Perhaps it may push us to become a manufacturing country again and at that price I would think it would be a nice little earner for someone.

eh ?

I want some catches for my boat. The quote is £20 each (pre Brexit price) but the price increases to £85 (customs, vat and postage) to send them to the UK now.

If I get them posted to Guernsey I can go and collect them VAT and Tax free. I am hoping to go there later this month.

Show us the catches, let's see if the PW collective can find them in the uk.

As welsh1 said, lets see these parts that you are unable to buy in the UK, I presume they are made from stainless steel?

Sterling silver more like , its the word sterling the EU dont like , so they put extra tax on it

Have you tried Temu or Aliexpress, they seem to be able to ship halfway round the word for nothing , so its not a UK problem, its an EU problem !

Your complaint is with the avariciousness of HMRC.  Who imposed ridiculous constraints on EU (and EU only) mail order outfits wishing to sell to us.

For once, this a Brexit 'benefit' entirely within gift to sort out.

I just bought a guitar case from Germany, thomann.de to be precise, vat was included, shipping was £10 and it came in 6 working days. It sounds like the company you were trying to buy from didn't want the sale.

In the last 2 months i have bought a visor and locking tabs ( different dates) a lens cover for an insta 360 x2 and  a pair of gloves, all bought from companies in the eu, all vat included and as above shipping was about £10 on all the items. The tabs took 2 weeks to arrive, they were in the uk in 3 days but customs held them up, all the rest arrived within a week.

Have you got a boat? I'm surprised as you never mention it....

I would actually be very interested in oowee’s boat and wish he would tell us more about it and his travels with it.
