Vince Green
How , reaĺistically, is the government ever going to smash gangs located in places in Albania and West Africa or Eritrea? It's just never going to happen as long as those who make it to these shores are allowed to stay? The only way to stop them coming is the absolute certainty that their feet will barely touch British soil before they get deported again. No ifs, no buts, no maybes. Mr.C
And the previous govt. were doing so well at stopping them too, such a sham(e) All the while there's money to be made it'll continue.
Vince Green
Never forget they ditched the Rwanda scheme practically the first day they got into power. And before they got into power they did everything they could to obstruct and delay it. They think we are like sheep and will soon forget these things. And yes to the other question, the French took the dead and injured off the boat and let the rest carry on with their crossing having radioed the British coastguard to pick them up. That tells you everything you need to know about what the French are about.
Old Boggy
973 crossings yesterday. The largest in two years. Starmer really knows how to `smash the gangs`. Boils my blood. OB
oldypigeonpopper
Hello, I do not think it will ever stop , very sad for the UK when the money it costs to house illegal immigrants could be put to better use , Trump mentioned the cost for the USA on exactly the same problem , 1/2 a Billion $$$$

12gauge82
It's little wonder theres billions of pounds worth of blackhole when there's that level of illegal immigrants coming in. 1000 in one day, multiply 1k a days rent, 1k x mouths to feed, police, education for future kids, hospital treatment, dentists, space on the roads, suppression of wages ect, ect, ect. The vast majority of it won't be measured, but just imagine the real world and full cost of all that, just for one day and then think of what the other 364 days will bring. What does Kier do, smashes the pensioners, this country is ****ed.

JohnfromUK
Apparently over 745,000 are now in the UK "awaiting asylum". That is 1% of our population. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13931281/Britain-illegal-migrant-capital-Europe-Shock-new-study-shows-745-000-asylum-seekers-country-accounting-one-cent-total-population.html The Gov't never had any plan, method or means to "smash the gangs". That was an outright lie, told simply to win the election. As others have said above, the 'gangs' exist, operate and thrive outside our jurisdiction - and very probably keep the local officials where they operate 'on side' with bribes. In my view the only real long term solution will be to make it very clear those arriving illegally won't (ever) be allowed to stay or receive a generous, comfortable reception - which is what the smuggling gangs tell them whilst taking their money. The Rwanda scheme was a tiny step that never got beyond planning because (in my view) those UK public bodies charged with operating it - didn't operate it - mainly due to our chronically bad record of them actually doing what the Gov't (and the majority of the UK general public) wants. However, it was a (very small) step towards making the UK a less attractive destination. This is going to get a lot worse because other countries who were previously welcoming (e.g. Germany) are having second thoughts on this. vmaxphil
If when they started coming over the government rounded them up, put them in secure facilities then let it be known that they would be there for 2 years before being assessed, it would have stopped it overnight
