JKD
He is being very philosophical about his diagnosis of only 2 to 4 years of living left. Not sure what to say really,,,, other than being very saddened by this news 😟

marsh man
Nobody had mentioned his wife who have also got medical problems , at times we moan about minor illnesses but there is always someone worse off than you , such a nice couple and at a very young age . Thoughts are with them both . MM

Dave66
It is good that he is able to raise the awareness of this horrible disease, many day hundreds of other people are told the same and have to deal with it, without the media support and attention that stars, celebrities and royals receive. It is very sad.

Indeed. I received a terminal diagnosis and was not expected to live long back in November 2020. With modern medicine and treatments backed by science right down to genetic level new advances are being made all the time so you never quite know what is round the corner. I wish Chris all the best on his journey.

Scully
A brave brave man. I wish him all the best, and as others have said, with advances in science and new technologies on an almost daily basis, hopefully there’s good news for him and others just around the corner. oldypigeonpopper
Hello, While it is good to see Prostate Cancer highlighted by a well known Sport Person, One must not forget there are 100s of men across the UK have the same diagnosis every day !!!! , I have been going to the Churchill twice a year for the last ten years , They call it Active Surveillance, in that time 5 scans and many PSA blood tests , Late December is my next time with a PSA blood test and see the Consultant, While I sit in the waiting room i see so many younger men late 40s 50s 60s all with wives/partners with that worried look, Things have come on a long way in the last ten years with Prostate Cancer treatments but it must be caught early , I think the age of PSA testing should be lowered then maybe more men will be treated before the Cancer spreads, I count my self lucky but i know quite a few men have not, Edited October 21 by oldypigeonpopper
marsh man
They now say that 1 in 2 will get Cancer at some time in there life , not very good odds and everyone will know someone who is either just been told , or already going through there treatment , life is like a minefield , you avoid one thing and then get hit with something else , make the most of life while you can as it won't last forever . I too had a stage 4 diagnosis in Jan 22, almost 3 years ago. I had no surgical or radio intervention, just chemo and androgen (testosterone) deprivation. I'm on no other meds at all and can wee normally again. The oncologist does a phone consultation every 6 months and I have a psa test every 3. I rang up to get my last psa result and it was still stable. My next is due on Nov 7th. It may be that Chris Hoy has a more agressive type than me but since my diagnosis at least 2 powerful new treatments have been released for use by the NHS to throw in when the cancer becomes resistant to the androgen deprivation. They still say that remission isn't realistic but the new drugs increase life expectancy. Physical fitness with a diet high in good things and low in junk really help too.
