Is there a petition to end all IHT?

Nope, ah well!

Currently, APR (agricultural property relief) and BPR (business property relief) allow working farm businesses to be passed to the next generation of farmers without incurring inheritance tax charges.

A couple of people have thanked me for the link but it was mellors who posted the thread so thanks mellors.

Hello, Rachel Reeves stated it will effect only a very small number of family farms across the UK ??, What ever small number that is to many, 🤔, I know quite a few farming families  around here on 2nd/3rd generation, they are passionate and hard working yet with this one bad move with the Labour budget announcement i dread to think how they are all feeling now, total despair !!!

She is wrong - the figures will vary but, good agricultural land is roughly 10K per acre https://rural.struttandparker.com/article/english-estates-farmland-market-review-winter-2023-24/

Then add in a house (maybe £500K?), machinery, livestock which might be another £200,000.

On that basis you are at a million well under 100 acres - which is these days a small farm.  An 'average' UK farm is 200 acres.

She is )no surprise) lying.

Yep, the smaller farms are likely to-be snapped up by foreign investment, especially land that as building potential.

The other thing about remote foreign owners is door knocking for a day on the pigeons will be a little more difficult, I know I have been there.

This is obviously going to upset many on this thread…

Farmers should not be exempt from a tax that many many others have to pay, nor should they have more favourable terms not available to others that pay IHT.

Go on enlighten me, how do you think not voting will stop them..... it would only aid them in their endeavour. No need to spin all the lies, just decide between themselves, who rules....

I prefer to enact my right given to me by my ancestors, paid for with their blood, sweat and tears.

Many gave their lives so we may have a say in how we are governed (even if the current lot are corrupt), I for one will not let their sacrifice be in vain.

I also believe it also gives me the right to complain, unlike anyone who threw, that earned by their ancestor's sacrifice away.

the fact we put up with no more power than a pathetic vote is actually an insult to every brave soul who fought for something better such as a land fit for heroes being honest enough to admit that’s the case shows both respect for their sacrifice and gives more right to complain than those who refuse to admit we are powerless
