Litter and fly tipping

Now don’t get me wrong I love this country and countryside. But what is it with people in this country and litter and fly  tipping especially here in Essex as other counties I have been don’t seem as bad. Seems everywhere you go there’s litter on the side of every road and not just a coke can I mean scumbags obviously clear all the rubbish out their car put it in a carrier bag and chuck it out the window complete *******! There’s been a load of fly tipping around here also not just a boot load I mean 7.5 ton at least tipper lorry loads .  And drive down the A12 proper **** hole. So many people must have absolutely no respect for this place. I went fishing in France the other week we drove from Calais to a place called Montpon-Ménestérol about 750 miles there on all types of road from motorway toll roads to minor roads could honestly say hardly see a piece of litter and no fly tipping. See thousands of pigeons on fields of sunflowers. Oh and not one pot hole .Seems the French have a bit more respect for where they live . As do the people in other countries I have been .

I work for a local authority in charge of street cleansing amongst other things.

In the last two days I have had two separate reports of fly tipping of used nappies. I think there was around 90 just dumped in two spots around 3 miles apart. Just heaved out onto the road, presumably at night when no one can see.

I don't know what is wrong with folk, it's not as if there isn't an abundance of public use bins in he district plus over 10 civic amenity sites thst are open 6 days a week.

We get fly tipping regularly, typically used packaging, building materials and numerous NOx gas cylinders/balloons - even dead dogs.  Police and local council have collected addresses mainly (from labels on dumped packaging), but apparently can't/won't act because of 'which minority group' is responsible.

General litter is also very bad.  Years ago, we had a 'lengthsman' who went litter picking and cut the verges etc.  No one does it now except a few (including me) do the sections outside their own properties.  Paris accounts still show a 'lengthsman' on the pay roll, but apparently due to increased traffic - it's not safe for him to clear the roadsides where there is no pavement.

But you don’t need to use a tip for a drinks bottle,can or crisp pack or stuff like that . But scum just chuck it out the window.

Lets face it these scumbags could easily be caught but Councils have a complete inability to get their fingers out of their ar**s and get on with the job.

I go right past a council tip every time I go to the clays ground (most weeks). Used to be really convenient.  Now I can't use it; I live in the wrong postcode for that tip.  I have to use a different one that is nowhere near my 'normal haunts'.  And yes, you now have to book and they do check and ask for proof of postcode.

The Parish Council did put up a camera, but it was stolen!  They were also warned that it was 'potentially' illegal as you need license/permission apparently.

Hello, On the local news tonight a Swindon man dumped rubbish in 2 places in the Vale, not far from the beautiful white horse hill , They caught him !!!!!!!!

Where we live in Cornwall is about three quarters of a mile up the road from a drive through KFC and a drive through McD. The amount of packaging, cups, wrappers etc that just gets chucked out of car windows is ridiculous 

Locals say the shops themselves should send people out to clear it up because they can't deny where it has come from

I was following a small car through a country lane and the driver threw a used sandwich pack, cardboard drinks cup and a brown bag that they came in. 

Being the kind person that i am i picked all the rubbish up. 

 

Followed them to a point that gave me enough time to return his belongings through his window and asked him and his little boyfriend to kindly take it home or use a bin. 

Of course i was in the wrong and called a naughty word or 2.

Yes it is scummers chucking stuff out of the car BUT the councils are to blame by being Hitlers at the disposal sites and charging the earth to remove anything.  A few local women go out litter picking along the main road and it is blatantly obvious that it is people of the village dumping drinks cans and plastic bottles.  Going out one way it is all on the left and going the other way it is all on the left.  indicating that it is the passenger side that is dumping it.  another odd practice is that SOMEONE has for many years been going through a local lane and its as if the passenger is reading a newspaper and dumping pages out as they go along.  several miles of it.

The last time I went to our council tip was the last time I will ever go to a council tip , I had took one of my fence panels to bits as my neighbour had put rubbish against it from his side and made the timber rotting , so I took every feather edge board off , moved the garden rubbish onto his and rebuilt the panel , I was going past where the tip was which was between 4 / 5 miles from mine , I pulled into the ground and this bloke walked straight out to the middle of the lane and put his hand up to stop me , undone my window , no good morning , kiss my arsx or nothing except , what have you got in the back , a broken fence panel , well that will be £3.50 , how much ? £3.50 in a slightly louder tone , you are not serious are you ? , I am deadly serious and you need to go around the corner to the office , pay for it and then come back here so I can see your receipt and then I will allow you to put it in that bin .

I 'll tell yer what , I will go around that corner , go to the way out , take it home and put the whole lot in the rubbish bin , which I did and since them all my rubbish , brick rubble and anything else that I class as rubbish go into the rubbish bin and the bin men who come every other Wednesday are the salt of the earth , help the ole folk with the bins and always got a smile on there face , well worth a drink I give them for Christmas .   MM

Well we are VERY lucky here in Peterborough, the chaps at the tip in town are extremely helpful.

They do guide you in the right direction and will chide you if you are wrong.

But once you get to know them they are great people.

We just need to remember that no-one wants anyone else's rubbish, even councils?

Hence the obstacles and costs.

I quite agree, some time ago there was a plan to add a print on to the wrapping with coded details of the buyer so they could be traced, but I suppose that would be against their "Human Rights"

Every "fast Food" outlet should be forced to clear up to a mile around their sites.

We have a country lane out of the village to the A47 and the local youngsters purchase food in either Stamford or Peterborough and park in the lane, consume the food and add the wrappers to the countryside. No way of catching them at it unfortunately.

As I said above, I used to visit a tip that I pass on my way to clays - but not now allowed.  The guys there were good and helpful.  I now have to use my 'allotted' tip - where they are also good, but instead of being an extra 500 yards on a journey I'm making anyway, it is a 10 mile (round) trip in the opposite direction where I rarely normally go.

When we are all trying to save fuel, money and resources - these things should be arranged to 'ease and assist', not to make it more difficult - just because they can.

Getting rid of normal domestic waste properly should be encouraged - and that means making it as easy as possible and covered without additional charge.  I appreciate that commercial waste may need a slightly different approach.

I take your point;

Years ago when councils were far more sensible they would bring an empty skip to the village for a week every couple of months, people got used to putting their rubbish in there and it solved the distance/transport problem.

Not seen such a sensible approach for years unfortunately.

Along with all tips in Kent, we have to book online for an allotted time which is really easy and works well. There’s a guy near the entrance checking your car registration and just waves you in. 
This system cuts down on the queues as there never are any even at weekends and always easy parking near the skips. 
The guys are helpful also, so I’ve got no complaints whatsoever.

As for Marsh man having to pay to dump wood, that is outrageous and just wouldn’t happen here.

It just boils my blood to see domestic litter dumped in the countryside when tip use is so convenient.

Our allocated time slots starting this week , you have only got a 15 minute time frame and can only book up at the moment for once a week , this is the only council run tip for around 20 miles , the traffic getting in and out of the town can be a nightmare and can very often take you 20 minutes or so getting from one side of the river to the other side even though we have now got three bridges so if you have got say 8 miles to go to dump some rubbish in your 15 minute time frame ,then how do you get on if you are 5 minutes late and get turned away and told to book up again the following week , or if you are ten minutes early then do they allow you to park until your allocated time slot is up ? as you have just used your one and only booking slot for that week , I can't say I would be over joyed having just done a 16 mile return trip only to be told , you cannot park here , or sorry you are 5 minutes late , can you come back next week , I can see this coming to blows as time wear on  .

This is honestly sheer madness and the countryside is going to become one big disposal tip , it's bad enough before the new regulations , now it can only get worse .     MM

It's a bit of a job to educate the above when they sit in there motor within arm length of the rubbish bin and either drop it out of the window , or if they have got enough energy then they open the door and ding it out under the motor and not all are in the younger age group , they seem to think that someone will come along and clear it up so by leaving it where it is then they are keeping someone in work , I wonder if there bedrooms are litter free    MM

Not so bad in the Mcdonalds car park, they leave it in the country lanes round here.

They do that everywhere.

I have returned rubbish to the vehicle it's been dropped/thrown from on a couple of occasions with interesting results.
