welsh1
Just had my FEO visit for my firearms renewal, as we went through the paperwork one of the questions asked was "do you take recreational drugs, or any other sort of drugs" i laughed and of course said no. I asked if anyone ever said yes to the question and he replied that they never did, but he then said that under new rules coming in they will be able to demand a drink /drug test from an applicant if they thought it was needed and it would be at the applicants expense, and a refusal would be the end of the application. Newbie to this
Sounds like another massive overstep..... Wonder if this was in the BASC police training. Do BASC sell drug test kits 🤔
TIGHTCHOKE
I see it as a natural progression, both Welsh1 and I and all Servicemen went through these sort of checks years ago when serving.
old'un
Not saying it is right but I can understand a drugs test….but a drink test in your own home? Think that FEO is talking a load of rubbish.
Windswept
I had the same question in my recent renewal. It was a firm no from me but I did mention how often I notice pot being smoked these days and the FEO agreed. Seems very common.
Edtwozeronine
True I wonder if trace amounts might be found on me or if it has to hit a certain threshold to be picked up by these tests? It stinks of it near certain households in this neighbourhood.
Scully
Jesus H! FEO is full of poop! I’m assuming it will be introduced for driving license applicants also then? 🙄

tonyshooter
I can see where he ( your FEO ) is coming from, but these test only provide a very small snapshot of the applicants habits, but I actually think they are making it up as they go along. My shooting buddy is currently living on Tramadol, as he need elective surgery on his knees. Presumably, as this is on prescription, it would be allowed for when the drugs teat shows positive ! JohnfromUK
It was a requirement of my former employer (a multi national USA based organisation) that if requested any employee must undertake a drugs test. Failure to comply would result in penalty up to summary dismissal. I was never asked, but I understand the test was used in other countries, but not (at that time) in the UK. oowee
I have been tested at the road side in a road block outside Birmingham. It sounds like a bit of overkill and more evidence of making up rules.

It only indicates cannabis and cocaine, and without a blood test it wouldn't indicate. I think the more interesting point is that misuse of Tramadol may be worse. 6 minutes ago, JohnfromUK said: It was a requirement of my former employer (a multi national USA based organisation) that if requested any employee must undertake a drugs test. I worked for a large government agency that had "random" testing. I am sure they tested randomly, but it was an easy way to "randomly" select someone if an accusation is made. A former workmate who now drives on the bins, told me he and all who are employed at his workplace as drivers are subject to random tests for drugs and drink. A local lad in the village ( already previously banned for drug driving ) works for a heavy plant company, and brings his work van home each night. Apparently his employer also has a random test policy, but if true he’s getting round it somehow, as the smell as he drives past ( and walks his dog past ) is unmistakeable. He has removed the smoke alarm in his flat as the landlord has a ‘no smoking’ policy agreement. The smell of those plug in air fresheners is sickening at times, and his windows are open in all weathers. 🙂
Mungler
I reckon half the time I am behind a white van in traffic on the way home I can smell it; especially scaffolders. Not that long ago we had our office roof replaced and by 11 am there was the smell of weed coming from the roof. It’s endemic.
39TDS
Scaffolders are usually on something harder than weed.
Vince Green Posted Tuesday at 19:32 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 19:32 My friend Warren drank a bottle of Whisky a day for more than 40 years. During some of that time he was an Army Officer and I'm given to believe that level of drinking was far from unusual. The root cause of his drinking was his service, I am sure but he never really told his story For 20 or so years after leaving the army, because of his service, he had a personal weapon permit and carried a 9mm Browning every day of his life in a shoulder holster. Then one day, he got a message to say his permit had been revoked and could he bring his pistol in to St John's Wood baracks He was a mess by then. I'm sure his military career ruined his life but we never knew the background . Toward the end he talked of many things that I would not willingly repeat . Some are quite shocking
