Labour governments, apart from Attlee's post war one, have always been very narrow focused Civil Service inefficiency has a lot to answer for in every aspect of the current problem. Rubber stamping through benefits claims , asylum claims, not deporting foreign criminals etc Apparently 98% of claims for PIP were awarded without interviewing the applicants because Civil servants are working from home . You couldn't make it up.

That will indeed make it 4.1%. What that actually is in £ per week/month depends a bit on the individual pension as there are huge variations depending on married/single, date of retirement, SERPS, number of 'qualifying years' etc., but all should get 4.1% I believe. They were warned at the time that it would actually raise MUCH less, a few £100 Million at best. It might even lose money as some who currently pay some tax here might simply move away altogether - and so pay nothing. (Many non doms paid some UK tax, VAT etc but not on various overseas activities I believe). It also seems that many wealthy are moving away. My guess is that the 'non dom' tax will raise little or nothing eventually and is just a political giveaway to their left wing nutcases. If you are on the new state pension which is currently £221.20 per week, that will be an increase of £9.06 per week. Don’t spend it all at once! Many of us with a small private pension of £600 a year or more will lose 20% of the £9.06 a week, getting £7.25 a week, lost £3.85 heating allowance leaves £3.40 a week, that might just cover the council tax rise. So with all the other price rises coming we are guaranteed to be worse off than now!

Scully
OH spent last week in London seeing old college friends. The husband of one is a Labour councillor and told her there’s a bit of a melt down going on at the moment with so many councillors leaving in protest at policy. Every little helps. 🙂
