four-wheel-drive
I am not sad that she has died as she had advanced dementia so it was probably better for her to go befor she lost everything. That said I did not agree with some of the things that she did but she did save this country from going down the plug hole top rate tax 98% interest rates of 18% everyone going on strike for fun. unapalomablanca
Margaret thatcher was my first ever vote back in 1987 when i was 19. David cameron was my last ever vote. I fully expect the 'leftie' airwaves to be full of their disgusting glee, on hearing the news they have all been waiting for. She had more brain in her little finger than todays entire cabinet. Working class grammar school girl, she went to oxford against the odds and was the only cabinet minister in history to have a PHD in chemistry. Her old man was a grocer, he must have been proud of her!! R.I.P Mrs thatcher.

I count myself as one of Thatcher's children. When I heard the news I closed my office door and reminisced for a while, then switched off my PC and went home for the day. I'm trying to come home for the funeral. We have lost a legend. Seeing the lefties spouting their vitriol is pitiful. R.I.P The Rt Hon. Vince Green
I have cousins that live in the old pit villages outside Newcastle. They will be celebrating up there sure enough but none of them have lifted a finger to help themselves these past few decades since the strike. A whole community still consumed with hatred yet it was them that took her on in the first place, they forget that. Arthur Scargill wanted personal glory, he was prepared to sacrifice his members to achive his twisted communist ambitions and he lost.
kent
Don't forget Scargill just lost his legal battle against the Miners union to keep his London home Free of charge for life! This is even though he does no actual work for them

Kes
Its only Northerners hate her, to everyone else she had the balls to kick the country into shape. It is the passing of a pretty great leader Al4x, not all northerners hate her - I didnt for one. She may have been controversial, especially to the end of her time as PM but she was undoubtedly one of the all time greats - the greatest peacetime PM ever in my view. Its not too much of an exaggeration to say she saved our country and made it a world force again. I've heard so much claptrap from miners about destroying communities etc. Since many communities depended solely on coal with no diversification. There could be only one democratically elected government and that didnt include the likes of Mr Scargill (president almost for life, of the NUM). A grateful Englishman. Royboy
The welfare state isn't there to provide a "lifestyle" its there to put a roof over peoples head and food in their mouths.... To those on benefits, I say, give up your fags, booze and Sky TV and there's your food bill + plenty more.... You can have them all back when you get a job. Mrs Thatcher was the best thing to happen to this country at the time, and we are all now benefitting from it in some way or other. Its just a shame the "other lot" has brought us down, yet again.... Spot on !
tbox
Thatcher certainly polarised opinion, but whichever side of the political spectrum you stand, you have to admit she had conviction and leadership. I just hope her peerage isn't hereditary. Wouldn't want her half-wit son in the House of Lords!

Lets be very clear, the mining industry was slowly being destroyed before thatcher had even entered politics, miners were so misguided, they thought they could end up rich by being miners, its called killing the goose, they and their henchman pushed a weak government for so much gold that they killed the whole thing. Even after they did this, they were handsomely paid off. Thatcher dident destroy the mines she just got the job of switching off the life support machine. alexr
It is sad that the old style socialists are so blinkered by their hatred that they can not recognise the greatest British politician of the last 50 years and mourn her passing. What happened to the post war utopian ideals when they crashed into the economic reality of the 1970’s made the social and economic events of the 80’s and 90’s inevitable. With hindsight we should be grateful that we had a leader who had the back bone to bring us through the upheavals of that decade. Lets face it socialism was killed by the economic realities and public greed of the 80’s. whether that was the Harry Enfield character Loads of Money or the greed for power displayed by the union leaders of that time. She is and I suspect will remain the greatest politician of my life time.
