I posted a while back about travelers moving into the town I live in and setting up camp on a boating lake. Well since then they were kicked from their they set up on the docklands, they were kicked from their set up on an industrial estate, they were kicked from their then set up on another industrial estate, they were kicked from their, set up opposite a school on some playing fields, they were kicked from their and they went I believe to the town next door, now their back and set up on a country park.

Each time the court process orders which threatens them with a fine, they move to a different location in this case sometimes less than a mile and the process starts again. The order takes about a week to produce and serve etc. Everywhere they have been so far they have left it in a mess, people are nervous when they are around and although I can't say for definite that these are linked but their have been. Dog thefts in the area and other things going on you don't normally hear about.

Now my questions are:

Whats the point in serving these notices for them to move 500yds commit the same crime and be served another notice?

In the latest move they have said they might be here for months, how likely is this?

How do they get away with committing the same crime over and r and over with no repercussions?

Is it about time this sort of thing was stopped? And proper punishlocal t put in place?

What also realy grins my gears are their are plenty of caravan sites all over the uk, but these people expect to not pay for anything.

Heres the local rag:

They are an oppressed ethnic minority with culture differences and rights that take precedence over all other communities. It is part of their ancient traditional rights to borrow things (permanently) and to leave sculpture made from recycled materials.

Now where did I see that 'tongue in cheek' emoticon???

As a Petulengro descendant I would just like to point out many people forget who stole what from who in the first place.

Since most common land has been privatised and taken from the various peoples of this land for the sole benefit of rich individuals then where are the people who chose not to live in a fixed brick box supposed to go?

Oh yes, introduce the vagrancy act, that should keep the dispossessed in order.

.Rumania, Russia, China. There are lots of socialist countries out there that let people do nothing all day long and pay no taxes.

So at what point do we go back to? I have no problem with travellers or those wanting to live that life. Where I have an issue with is the mess they leave and the amount of stuff that goes missing off the farm etc. Whilst I am sure there are good travellers, in the last 30 years, I have yet to meet any.

In the time that I've been aware of the nuisance they cause I have known of ONLY two occaisions when they have moved quickly and not come back.

The first was many years ago in Kent and involved a .45" bullet going through the top of each caravan.

The second was in Essex and involved a .22" bullet going through the roof of each caravan.

Whilst NOT condoning such behaviour, it would appear that it is one of the few things these people understand, as they will not see reason!

Travellers doesn't really do them justice. They work and live off the radar. Few will be on HMRC records.

They move around when it suits, set up camp, trash a place and then to another site.

There will be good and bad amongst them - just like any other group, but I can find little to admire about them.

Powers that be were happy enough to clamp down on me and others like me when I travelled with the hippy convoy (to the point of beating pregnant women and smashing up peoples homes at the Battle of the Beanfield).

Why do they take such a lax attitude with these people?

Just witnessed those featured on last weeks big fat ***** get a police escort to where ever they were heading. Five police cars stopping traffic at lights etc so they could travel in convoy. What a waste of taxpayers money. They loved it

i dont think you are allowed to join if you are a good 'un, same as you cant join the police if you are a bad'un.

Gypsy rights. Ethnic minority persecution says the media bandwagon.

Everyone is going on about gypsy rights yet everyone is too scared to mention gypsy wrongs.

I made a point of explaining about rights to the two of our travelling friends who I caught in my garden trying to borrow all my iron garden furniture.

It started " do you know nemesis means?"

Tbh it ended up with me getting a little irate and picking up the thick end of a pool cue and getting ready to get stuck in. They departed with haste.

If I went into one of their ***** palaces and lifted all the tat I would imagine they wouldn't want to listen about my rights

While they may be an ethnic minority they are certainly not oppressed, and as for who would let them camp on a static caravan site;less than five minutes drive from me is one of the biggest static caravan sites in Cumbria, where not only do gypsies camp, but is owned by several gypsy families.

As for rights I would say they have as many as you or I,but can get away with many discrepancies based on their ethnic traditions. The Police will intervene if necessary, but they have to be pushed, shall we say, unless the infringement is quite a blatant or serious threat to public safety.

Things are getting steadily worse in my experience, yet following each fair a Police spokesperson will state to the media that despite a few isolated cases the fair has been very successful with 'in real terms'(politico speak) incidences being down on last year.In the past 5 years during the fair there have been stabbings and running battles with cleavers, machettes and a stabbing with a bayonet, sexual assaults, assaults, and too many thefts to mention. They defecate on the streets and in the hedgerows(public health violations)and despite what they may tell you none of them carp in their own caravans if they can help it,and some don't even carp in the pan when in a cubicle. They block roads and streets, fish on public and private waters without licenses, park where they want, carry whips and crops in public, rip down wooden fences and garden gates for their fires or scrap, and demolish fences to graze their horses in fields. They also drive around in their rented cars while not wearing seatbelts and talking on their mobiles;and all they receive is an 'oy,you;get off that phone and fasten your seatbelt'.There is so much traffic that pulling over each one to issue a fixed penalty would cause major traffic congestion. And then the Fair committe, comprising representatives from the town council,Police and the gypsy council erect huge banners from one side of the street to the other emblazoned with the word 'RESPECT' !

This year,on top of the usual, there was a car chase through the crowded streets in pursuit of an X6 which had been stolen from some premiership footballer which was brought to a halt after clipping a horse and then ramming into a school bus which the Police had asked the driver to block the road with;it was carrying primary school children at the time! My son was walking home from school with his mates and witnessed the entire episode.

Police arrested 20 men from the N.East who were intent on coming over the Fells to 'settle a few scores'.They were arrested before they got here.

BUT,they're not all bad, just like the rest of society. The genuine Romany gypsies are easy to spot, and are courteous, polite and are as inclined toward criminal intent as you or I,but they are now a minority amongst a minority.

Many of the older generation are distancing themselves from the present one,as they realise they are trouble, and on 'the hill' which is the traditional location for the camp, many of the older ones have chosen to camp elsewhere to avoid trouble.

People say that the Fair is getting back to what it used to be,a happy family affair(but this is usually said by local business people who wont hear detrimental remarks against the Fair, for obvious reasons)but when I was a kid no Police were armed;many are now.

Personally I don't think its a question of rights, but more of what's right and what 's wrong.
