Of course you can slag a mate off if he's been a ****!

Naming him on here would be wrong unless your car was one (or both)of those he hit !

Oh and if he was brighter she would have already gained her SGC.

My twopence worth would be , of course it might not make him a violent psychopath but the drink does make him make bad decisions and bad decisions and split second timing either shooting or driving can have disastrous consequences as the owners of those cars know!

How many on here have had a drink the night before going shooting.

How many threads on here start "what's your tipple tonight"

i think it's a bit harsh slating your mate, twice the limit is as little as two pints, one if it's on an empty stomach. let's hope he's learnt his lesson and doesn't get into too much grief over it eh?

To be fair, don't know many who would crash into two cars after two pints.

Sounds like he had enjoyed more than that to me.

Out of interest, what happens if a totally legit person wants to apply for a certificate, but has shacked up with someone the police class as undesirable? Would it be likely to be granted?

Probably not but then for them to be undesirable it suggests they ARE still undesirable rather than they did a few dumb things in the past.

Just wondering as I don't know my doctor, a member of parliament or a justice of the peace.

One of the only people I know that would qualify is my ex-wife, would she be able to give a reference as we are now divorced and therefore no longer related/spouses

Well not only was he twice the limit (which is nearer to 4 pints for most people) he was returning from shooting with firearms in his vehicle and crashed into two other cars!

Excess alcohol and cars is bad enough; excess alcohol and cars and guns is down right nuts!

I'd be curious to know whether he was actually ratted at the shoot or whether he drank after he left. If the former then lots of people should have been asking lots of questions!

Well, if he was twice the limit coming back from the shoot and the booze was from the night before then he must have been absolutely steaming when he first got there!

He's a moron and if he were my mate I'd tell him to his face. We don't need people like that having access to firearms.

This comment flies in the face of some of the other posts but I agree with it entirely. Any true friend would tell him that he has been a plonker.

Anyone who drinks and drives is a selfish bell end and deserves everything the courts can throw at them.

My missus was knocked down by some ******** who was 4 times the limit some years ago and the first thing they tried to do was run away. Luckily he was jumped upon and received a miserable 3 months inside.

No there's no excuse it's just addiction and selfishness from people who have a complete disregard for the Law and how their behaviour affects other people.

Lets get this right guys, there are some of you who are making out that I am not a good friend to this person. Get real, I didn't name him did I ?

I have been loyal friend for many years now, the same can't be said for my mate. He has stitched me up many times, ripped me off many times, offended me many times.....he is one of the most arrogant & selfish blokes that I know. He actually treats me like **** most of the time, so I use the term "mate" lightly.

And yet, I help him when he needs it most, I buy nice presents for his kids on their birthdays and xmas. I am a good friend.

He is a short tempered, irresponsible, drink driving pillock who deserves to loose his SGC. Anyone who thinks I should throw him a life line by putting his guns on my cert is also a pillock. You are all very brave when it comes to slagging people off on-line. I question your logic when you say things like "who needs friends like you ....blah blah blah" You would be lucky to have a mate like me.

Would you jump to his defence if he had killed an innocent person? or a child? some poor soul meeting an early grave cuz some **** decided that it would be O.K to drive a huge van, through dark country lanes, during one of the worst storms in recent years......having drank 4 pints of Guinness !!!..........yes folks, by his own admission 4 pints (knowing him it was probably 6). He smashed up 2 cars and it was pure luck that nobody got injured. (I wonder if they found it hard getting to work the following day?)

I haven't turned my back on him. And I have said to his face far worse than I have typed here.........and he has been stuffing the humble pie quite well. Don't get me wrong, I won't enjoy seeing him struggle with his work etc as loosing his driving licence is going to cripple him. But when you have a business, a family, a mortgage to pay, and 2 shotguns in the van.....don't drink and drive. Just don't do it ever.

My mate was killed by a drink driver in Spain, he was missing for days and when the police found his body it was down in a gully, and he had obviously been trying to clamber out of the wreckage before he died, he had a broken back, he was 26 years old. His name was Nathan and we all miss him a great deal. Drink drivers........no friends of mine!

For everybody with a brain: Thanks for your comments.

For all the pillocks: F.R.O

I'm now going to enjoy a quadruple Talisker in the safety of my own home........will be driving something into my wife in a bit, but it won't be a van !!!!! goodnight all.

Is his wife going to use the guns herself? Of course not. If the guns were to stay in the house the husband may be tempted to take them out to shoot clays when he has been banned from gun ownership. He has already been shown to be reckless, feckless and stupid for being caught drink driving. He may be equally stupid again.

Not for being caught. For drinking and driving.

Your post Danoi99 (post 43) was well put. I for one could read between the lines of the original post and guage your concern for the drink-driving muppet who barely deserves your friendship.

As for your last sentence.............does it really take a quadruple Talisker?
