malkiserow
I am looking for a really good firm mattress and wondering what make you, the PW massive, recommend? Also, do they have a factory outlet or are they any good deals about? I heard Relyon are very good...

MartynGT4
I bought a high-end pillow topped pocket sprung Reylon mattress a few months ago and I have to say, sleeping on it has been nothing short of life changing!
MartynGT4
Hypnos make good mattresses and do ones specific to slatted bases if you need. They won't be cheap, but you will find good prices on line. I wouldn't recommend a tempur style unless you sleep cold and don't want to move around at all. Tempur mattresses are a rip-off, within a year it'll have a body shaped dip in it and they're really hot to sleep on.

Paddy Galore!
silent night or sealey, we need a new mattress, we've been to a few of the outlets like bensons and dreams, I found this gel type thingummy mattress and I didn't want to get up again, expensive but absolute bliss it was. the one we've got at the moment was bought off ebay back in march, it's a pillow topped, firm, pocket sprung jobby but it feels like rock, I hate it, you need to try before you buy. shaun4860
I bought a silent night one from Costco, It's one of those mould to your body memory foam ones Hate the thing with a vengeance, I roll about a fair bit in bed and you just can't with this type, you are always in a hole Seriously tempted to put the old one back on which I kept just in case, Oh they are a very warm mattress as well for some reason? Thunderbird
I've got one from a local independent place - it's a traditional style one but with a thin memory foam coating. It's really good and I haven't had any back problems at all since I've had it. PM me Malk if you like, or come down and try it when Ack-Ack is here. There's room for three. lord_seagrave
Another vote for Ikea. Even their top of the range pocket sprung jobbie is only £500. LS

Medic1281
You won't get better than a vi-spring. Regarded as the Rolls Royce of mattress.
Lampwick
Took a bird home the other night after clubbing and, after a few drinks at mine we went upstairs, while we were taking our clothes off,a voice from the bed said “i hope thats not the fat bird from the other night” Don't buy a memory foam mattress!! Gordon R
http://www.hypnosbeds.com/index.aspx I lost a vertebrae in 2003 and it has made a very firm, but comfy mattress essential. I have been through the range of orthopaedic and memory foam and have just ordered one from the above firm. They supply the Royal Family, but are surprisingly not too costly. Kes
Sealey are good - mine is posturepaedic but its almost goosed after 14 years. I'm tight so cant call that 'value for money' but it has been excellent and very comfortable
johnphilip
i think you need to go and try them (but no rumpy pumpy ) what suits one person may not suit another
Mentalmac
I used to work in the industry running an exhibition which furniture, beds and bedding was part of. Used to travel and meet many of the bosses at the factories... all i would say is you get what you pay for, (most of the time) Some of the lower end mattress companies I went to were situated in what would appear to be abandoned warehouses in Dewsbury and Bradford where even lighting was only half done and were damp and had rats... I do have some candid pics somewhere I am sure of those places. No health and safety to be seen, mattresses half made left on concrete damp floors etc... wasn't great. Just watch out of the rip off names, like obviously you'll have silent night who are a massive brand, and then a smaller company in Leeds called 'silent sleep'. They'll sell the mattresses to cheaper shops and you think you have a bargain big brand bed - but you really don't. I like Harrison Spinks mattresses, and Hypnos are great and Vi-Spring are lovely mattresses, but have a hefty price tag. Not really into Tempur sealy stuff. Paul T
Due to having a bad back I'm in constant pain and I'm very restless during the night. We are probably due to change our bed again next year and we'll be looking at pocket sprung again. I simply can't get on with the memory foam ones - way too hot (I sweat a lot during the night) and they don't change shape quick enough. figgy
Who said Vi Sprung are not expensive, just looked online and seen one for over five grand. Had a look on the website and for a super kingsize it's over £17.000 no wonder the supply the royals. Even the cheaper end of the range is more expensive by hundreds than competitors for same quality mattress. Figgy
