percy verance
Hi comrades, was wondering if any of you had any thoughts on whether a parked vehicle makes pigeons wary when left in the same field as the hide, if so how far should it be parked away or maybe a net over? thanks. ditchman
i often drive nose first into a spinney and open the back door of the landrover...chuck a few shells out and shoot for an hour or 2 this way.....its all to do with movement....if the pigeons see movement ...no chance.......if you see the birds at distance put the gun into port position ...then up-an-thro at the last second... Mike737
I don't think it bothers them, when I look out into my yard, they're often sitting/pooing on my Disco... Mike.

timmytree
A few years ago I had a Micra, bright red, a brilliantly reliable form of transport but not exactly a shooting vehicle. However, one wet day I drove it across the stubble and parked under some trees and put decoys out. Woodies ignored the car and landed yards away! I hung netting over the windows to break my outline and they landed even closer! Most woodies are used to seeing cars, they ignore them as long as they can't see the human inside, use your car as a hide. The Micra eventually became known as the LandMicra because it would tackle just about anything as long as you had a bit of speed up. It's now 20 years old and retired from shooting but is now the "first car" for a friends daughter.
vampire
we always dump all the gear off then park 4x4 well out of the way and never on a flight line,we have used it to divert a line to our favour.

Fisheruk
I find my pickup doesn't spook either crows or pigeons. I can drive up to shooting range and then wind down the windows and shoot through the passenger window. Also works for grey squirrels. Mind you I am using a .22lr and shooting 50 yrds. Longbower
'Car shooting' is great for Magpies, as cars don't spook them . With a some sticky back hooks and some cammo screen , you can soon knock up a 'hide' on the back of your vehicle.
12boreblue
I recall some time ago someone did some testing in this area, they used red building site fencing, bright colured clothing, and all sorts of coloured objects we would normally not consider using in the field. Conclusion was it does not matter, the issue was movement, nothing else seemed to put the pigeons off.
Davyo
shot couple weeks ago and the hide was 6 ft away from my grand vitara, didn't bother them even thinking of leaving the tailgate open next time and shooting from the back.It is the right colour though NATO green. Foxxy
Most places I pigeon shoot will only let me drive on their land to unload/load and then off. I find this satisfactory.

GingerCat
My 'battle" yarris has often driven over stubble and used as a hide, didn't seem to bother them but on the same note I have put it under a flighline on a farm to send them my way. Depends on where your decoying and the conditions I guess .

I have shot out the back of my truck quiet a few times and i have had it parked a very short walk from the hide also dont seem to make that much of a problem
ShropshireSam
I tend to park at least a 100 yards away from the hide unless the pigeons have a choice of sitty trees, then I park under the one I don't have the hide next to. cpaulc
I have a very red vehicle. So I tend to use it at the other end of a field as another scared device.
