35 years ago we had exactly the same problem as you. We lived in Essex near the Suffolk border. We moved to Suffolk on the Norfolk border.

Now in our third, and last, house in the same parish. We would never leave here except in a box.

Game shooting, vermin, pigeons, wildfowling, fresh water and sea fishing - It's all on the doorstep.

The Memsahib was into horses and she has always been happy too.

What makes the area really special is the locals - The salt of the earth.

Move just up the road boy - Wonderful country.

I have lived in Norfolk since I was 7 years old and have no real wish to move elsewhere. Much as I love Cornwall it does not have the wildfowling to compaire with Norfolk. Scotland has the wildfowling and I like the place , but the countryside is just too bleak for me in winter. With the exception of salmon fishing and grouse shooting the county can offer good quality sport for most field sports.

The only problem with Norfolk is its filling up with people fast. There was a time when I would drive from one side of the county to the other in the early hours for morning flight on the Wash and never see another car. Alass thats no longer true. Many villages are now becoming spoilt as houses seem to be getting built every where. The village I grew up in had around a hundred houses when I was a kid , it now has over 5,000 , but I quess thats true all over the country. The coastal marshes that wildfowlers once had to themselves are now full of bird watchers , dog walkers , boaters and ramblers , there is even talk of building a tarmac path along the back on one coastal marsh I shoot on to encourage even more access. We could with dropping the population in this country by 20 million to get back to where we used to be. The other thing that makes the north more attractive is the colder winters they enjoy up there.

VERY surprised at the number of replies suggesting Scotland.

It's almost as if nobody giving that answer has heard of the SNP, or read about SNP plans to kill off gun ownership & reverse the Highland clearances by compulsory land purchase from the perceived "problem landowners" (i.e. non-Scottish types)

Been looking to get away from the Forth-Reich since the vote last year...

HOUSE EXCHANGE AVAILABLE!

(NOT a joke, been on the list for most of the year...so if YOU fancy some of Sturgeons Marxist Scottish utopia fae the masses & a cushy existence on the state teat then tell me where you are & how soon you want to swap tenancy agreements)

I'd have Isle Of Man as first choice...or North Wales/Salop/North Yorkshire. ..or maybe back to North Northumberland
